The pitch everywhere in Gattlinburg and Pigion Forge is free something for a tour of the Westgate Resort in the Smokies. We took advantage of the $ 60.00 off our room. The 90 minute pitch was slow and over done, they breeze you through the property and then wait for you to ask ,"HOW MUCH". Having been in sales and understanding how this stuff works, the first thing I noticed when we arrived was the employee training room was visible from the reception area.

When I told our "Representative " that life insurance sales people turnover at 98 percent a year he admitted that most of the people there last about 6 months. The hot room or pitch room is filled with coffee and donuts not as comfortable as one would expect. The pitch was long and lasted over the 90 minute period. I reminded the representative that he was on a clock. He claimed that he closed 1 out 4 pitches, that is extremely high closing ratio for this type of sale.

We toured at 100 mniutes into the pitch and the tour was 10 minutes. The units are nice, small and all one bedroom, you get a two bedroom or three bedroom by adding together units. The close was poor with him hitting us with the high rate for a 2 bedroom unit (no one bedroom units available) at $ 25,000 with $ 5,000 down and the rest at 17.9 % interest over five years at 550.00 per month.

When we told him we could not afford that he brought over the Boss for a check out on nis performance. We answered the 2 or 3 questions about the pitch and no high pressure tactics and then he moved in for the bump down closes. The first bump down was fifty percent or the magicial we may a 1 bedroom for $ 12,000 and only $ 1200.00 down with a payment of $225.00 per month. At this point I stood up, shook both guy's hands thanked them for the opportunty and started to walk out. The "Boss" yells where are you going? I said " Gattlinburg " and explained that I promised 90 minutes of my time and at this point it had been over 2 hours. He was shaking his head in disbelief as I went out the door.

Remember this,THERE AIN"T NOTHING FOR NOTHING,I have been around high pressure tatics for years, for me this adventure was fun but for the unknowing getting wrapped up in one of these deals can be devasting. They did nothing wrong and like some peole have expressed on this site pay attention to what is going on READ the paper in front of you.

And while I don't doubt that there are people out there who do enjoy the "westgate experience," it is those of us who have decided to finance elsewhere and/or rescind on the contract that are dealt with in a fraudulent manner and rest assured - the individuals involved with Westgate that have done this will be held legally accountable.

Is pretty easy to condemn those of us who have been too trusting and thinking these people were honest with us but when you are rushing trying to get back on the road with children who have been sitting for several hours, especially one who has gone thru extensive mind grueling and physical military training, it is pretty darn easy to be taken for a ride. There are just too many people out there with complaints about Westgate and we are not idiots - we do read. It is those who try to skirt around the laws and lie that will be held accountable.
