Prior to opening Face, defendant Johnson operated a modeling company in Georgia called Xtra Model Management, Inc. The State of Georgia sued defendant Johnson and his company for engaging in unfair or deceptive practices in connection with the operation of his modeling company, and defendant Johnson signed a judgment agreeing, among other things, never to engage in employment with, directing, or acting as an agent or consultant for a modeling or talent agency located in the state of Georgia. He further agreed to pay the State of Georgia $30,000 to be used as restitution and attorney fees. -- Attorney General of North Carolina
The biggest modeling scams in America right now are being run by men with criminal records or those who were prosecuted by the Department of Justice, the Federal Trade Commission, or the State Attorney General. They are all repeat offenders. These people are financial terrorists, leading the attack on thousands of Americans. Department of Justice Issues Permanent Injunction Against Repeat Offenders A defendant in a civil penalties action has a right to a jury trial on the issue of liability.
In 1998, a jury found the defendant in United States v. National Talent Associates, et al., No. 96-CV-2617 (D. N.J.), liable for over 20,000 violations. The violations involved claims made in home sales presentations that were forbidden by an FTC order.
A Dateline NBC story that aired shortly before trial showed a salesman, who testified at trial, making such claims.
