Iam a 39 year old man who thought he was doing the right thing I had leased a car in 1997 and decided to purchase the car after the lease was up and when this happend the finance company had sent me an aplication to extend the warranty on the car for another 60 months or 100000 miles.

being a engine mechanic for 22 years I thought this was a good idea. this way the car would be coverd for the duration that i would have it. the companys name that i had purchesed this warnty from was wynns extended care. after 2 years into the waranty i developed a rod knock so i brought it to reputable engine co who took these extended waranty plans. after removing the engine from the vhecical the wyns adjuster came to the shop and determined the the engine rod failure was due to lack of lubrication and wouldnt be coverd.

so i then went to the shop and looked at the engine myself their was some damage to the rod bearings on the engine but no damage to the main bearings, cam bearings, cam shaft or lifters. And the oil pump was still intact and was never inspected. now being a engine mechanic for 22 years on big bore engines when we do the failuer anlisis we look at the while picture not just the result to determin the cause of failure.

Mark, I am having the same problem in Washington State. I had a rod knock on the freeway and they are trying to tell me that there are oil leaks that the shop even says were not present on arrival. ALSO they are trying to tell me that if it was pre-existing from the prior owner (any lubrication problems like lack of oil changes) that they are still not going to pay for it. Just like you, I have all the reports that I made oil changes and whatnot as required. How did your turn out and did they change thier mind? Please let me know, as I am trying to decide what the next step should be on my part. I need an engine replacement and have to let the Saturn dealer service dept know by MONDAY PM (8-1-05) what I intend to do with the vehcile as it is "occupying a needed stall". Thanks, Greg in Puyallup, WA [email protected]
