2 days a go 2 young girls came to my door posing as college students from FSU. One of the girls said her father is a doctor and they live in the subdivision right accross from me. they said they were selling books and magazines subscriptions which will earn them points towards a school trip to Florence Italy. they were very giddy, high fiving, friendly and very persuasive. I let them in and ordered 3 books, which they originally told me were $40.00 dollars per book (they asked if i could buy 6). i said that $40 was high to begin with, and i could only buy 3. i went to get my check book, as i came back she had the receipts filled out at $48.00 per book, i questioned them about it, and they gave me a bs story about some fee. i hesitantly handed them 2 checks( they asked for 2 seperate checks). one for $96 and one for $48. Total of $144.00. before they left, the one girl who said her parents live in the nighborhood said that her mother was going to bring me a bottle of wine as a thank you.

when they left i had a pit in my stomach, thinking that i just did something so wrong. i could not believe that i just spent $144.00 on 3 books. about an hour later, my friend who lives in the subdivision accross from me coincidentally the one that one of the girls said her parents are from, called me. she said i saw you baught books as well, she saw my checks. i told her that i did not feel so good about those purchases. she agreed as she bought one book. but they did not charge her that extra $8.00 dollar fee. she then told me that she thought it was fishy. we started comparing notes and realized that something was definately wrong. one of the girls told her that her father was a doctor living in my subdivision. we both came outside and started walking around looking for them. by now they were no where in sight. and i had my kids at home. i came back in and googled the compnay name direct circulation, Inc. and xtreme marketing, Inc. what i found absolutely baffled me. i found numerous letters of innocent customers who were scammed the same way and in different parts of the country. they all told the same story. their father was a doctor living in the neighborhood, college students, money for trips through out europe. and a mom was going to bring wine, baskets, you name it. i immediately called my bank and had the checks stopped. my friend did the same. what shocked me most is that the rip off reports from the innocent people have been dating back to atleast 2002. why is this company still in business? what a shame. i am embarassed. i am thankful for the ripoff reports that were publiched and that i looked on line in time to stop my checks; however, i feel sad for those who did not think of doing it, and they will never get the goods or their money back..
