My family and I had booked a trip to Rome Italy. We used airbnb to find a place to stay. The host was unresponsive to any communication. I had notified airbnb of that and nothing was done. The day before we were to fly out to Rome I still hadn't received any communication from host on how to check in. I called airbnb at 6 am to discuss.
They did they would escalate my case since I was traveling the following day. At 1:30 I called them back since I still hadn't received a call. At this time j was told they would try to contact host but would have to.give him 12 hours to respond. They also suggested I loom at other options in case they couldn't reach host.
At 12 am I finally was able to contact the host on the phone with someone who spoke Italian. The host said he no longer is hosting the house. I then called airbnb and they offered me my money back and a 30% voucher to rebook somewhere else. This amount didn't even come close to the cost of the few remaining properties in Central Rome.
Instead j bad to book 4 hotel rooms that cost an additional $5000 compared to what I was paying airbnb. They told me there is nothing they can do. I also found out the host had double booked it on another site at a higher price.
