If you are a Baby-boomer, you know the Rabbit would always ask Mr. Owl " how long does it to get to center of a Tootsie Roll?" If you are not a Baby-boomer, you are familiar with the phrase "build it and they will come." Those two phases are the center fowl of the Harnett County Sheriff's Department in Lillington NC. For over four decades plus the sheriff’s department has refused to clean up the drug trafficking on Roosevelt Road in the Riverside outside Erwin, NC. Currently there are five drug houses operating! I recently called the department to report the drug activities and because a criminal myself. The deputy asked me for my social security number just to report the 24/7 call in meet and sell operation at just ONE of the locations. You can contact the Harnett County manager, district commissioner, and ALL elected or appointed officials and they still will ignore you. However, the county expects you to pay your property tax in which your residential area is drug ridden. In the Riverside Community you are hailed as a hero if you are a drug dealer. You have local hypocrite church folks even hailing them as community leaders and idols. The weaker ones or family related tides has accepted the fact and others are just cowards and ripping financial profit gain. To make matters worse the jackleg preachers turn the other chic. The Rabbit asked the right question. As long as the sheriff's department keep the drug dealers on the payroll the YOU will never get to the center of tootsie roll. It is only in a minority community that you will see five drug houses on Roosevelt Road selling drugs 24/7 and go unchecked for four decades plus. If it was in the county manager back door, city manager, district attorney…. "LOCK THEM UP” would have been top propriety. You will see a patrol car basically only in an emergency situation or when their TOD has ended. THEY NEVER PATROL the community on regular basis. As a matter of fact, some of them are just intimidated or pure cowards to intervene. They will attempt to interrupt the LAW to you or justify their actions. Property owners gets cents on the dollar that they pay in taxes for public safety. The sheriff's department allows them to sell it and they WILL COME on Roosevelt Road by any means necessary foot, mopeds, car, and even company trucks with your logo advertising your business. You report the driver to the company and he still returns next week. They will come at ANY and ALL times of the night and through the day.
