Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

In Octover 2019 I attempted to receive business funding with Orange Financial also known as OrangeFI. I was told by an employee, Sebastien Boyer that I did not qualify because of negative items on my credit report. Mr. Boyer recommended that I contact Rob Hightower for credit repair services. Mr. Boyer stated that he worked with Hightower in the past and that he was able to get negative items removed from his other client's credit reports.

On November 1, 2019 I paid Rob Hightower $750 for credit repair services. Mr. Hightower did not provide me with a contact of the services he would provided.  On December 20, 2019 I contacted Mr. Hightower to ask what items on my credit report were in the process of being disputed. He was not able to provide me with this information.

I then contacted Sebasiten Boyer the employee at OrangeFI that referred me to Mr. Hightower and informed him that I believed I had been scammed. He agreed to contact Mr. Hightower on my behalf. He claimed Mr. Hightower informed him that credit repair services were being performed on my behalf. However, I never received verification on what items on my credit report were being disputed.

On January 24, 2020, I sent Mr. Hightower a text requesting a phone call. During the call I learned that Mr. Hightower does not provide credit repair services. He works as a third party for a credit repair company. Which was not disclosed to me at the time I paid for the services. I spoke with someone named Cheri, she did not provide her last name nor disclosed the name of the credit repair company. Mr. Hightower was also on the phone call. I asked Cheri what negative items were being disputed and she was not able to provide me with this information. She told me that she would contact her office and she and Mr. Hightower were suppose to follow up with me within 15 minutes. I did not receive a return phone call and Mr. Hightower failed to respond to phone calls, texts and emails from me.

On February 3, 2020 I sent an email to OrangeFI informing them that I had filed a complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. An employee responded to my complaint and agreed to contact Mr. Hightower on my behalf. The employee, Nick Boyer, explanied that OrganeFi had no business relationship with Mr. Hightower other than having referred clients to him in the past.

Mr. Boyer contacted Mr. Hightower on my behalf. Mr. Hightower sent me a settlement letter on 2/8/2020 agreeing to refund me the $750.00. In the body of the email he stated I would have the funds in my account by the end of the following week which would have been 2/20/20. On 2/21/20 I received a payment of $300.00 from Mr. Hightower. I have since contacted Mr. Hightower to learn when I will be refunded the remaining $450.00 and he will no longer respond to my correspondence.

For the price of printing letters and postage, you have the ability to dispute anything and everything on your credit report, event if YOU know the debt is legitimate.  You don't need to pay anyone for the service.

Now, simply disputing an item doesn't mean the item is removed - in fact, no one can guarantee anyone can remove items from your credit report.  Asking this person whether an item was disputed or not....is irrelevant since you can do it yourself.  The question of the $450?  I'd say you're fortunate getting the $300 back.

The best DIY credit repair I've seen online is by Lexington Law; it works, it's free, it details how the letters should be worded, and describes the entire process.  Don't call them or pay anyone when you can do it all yourself.

I would like to note that I tried to address this matter with Mr. Hightower for almost two months. I simply wanted to know if the negative items on my report had been disputed and her was unable to provide me with an answer. If services were provided he should have been transparent about what was being done.

Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act you have the right to dispute inaccurate and outdated negative items on your credit report.

The Credir Repair Organizations act enforced by the FTC, states the following regarding credit repair companies:

  • Credit repair companies are to provide a written contract that details the services they'll perform
  • Consumers have a  three day right to cancel without any charge
  • Consumers are required to know how long it will take to get results

I was not given a contract, I was not given a three day right to cancel, nor was I told how long the service would take. Furthermore, I have a signed contract from the service provider that states I will receive a refund.

I appreciate your feedback and I was not an informed consumer. However, I have a valid issue because the Attonery General and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau have responded to my complaint claims and have agreed to get involved in this matter.

What you wanted to do was to pay somebody who you thought could remove correct items from your credit reputation in an attempt to DEFRAUD future creditors about YOUR REAL CREDIT REPUTATION in hopes you could DECEIVE them into lending you money!

Guess what Einstein? If the info is correct, nobody can remove it. Are you feeling scammed about now? Isn't THAT a shame!
