I was behind on my gas bill well it ended up getting shut off due to I couldn’t come up with the payment. Ok well they took my deposit making my bill half of what it was before they shut me off.
Then charged me a couple fees that made it more then what it originally was and when I called and asked them why they just didn’t take my deposit before shutting it off and I could of avoided all of the gas being shut off all together. And they said it don’t work that way

They required a Deposit because you do not have sufficent credit history to prove to them that you can reliably pay your bill...and apparently they were right. Part of the Deposit Agreement is that it won't be used to cover just a late bill, or keep your utility from being shut off. It is there to protect the company in the event your service is cut off they can recover the balance due.
Now, if this only covered half of the bill, that means that they did not take a big enough deposit. So you can expect if you do get your service restored you will be required to put down an even bigger deposit in order to get service. This deposit will likely be required to be paid in full before they start service. Depending on the Utility company this could be as much as 3-4 times your average monthly bill.
Perhaps it is time to get rid of other "luxuries" such as Internet Service if you are having issues paying your bill.
