1199SEIU Pension Fund Sham New York New York
Iv'e worked almost 6 years as an 1199SEIU member as part of their Health Care Employees Pension Fund team. 1199SEIU states that their Health Care Employees are eligible to borrow money from their pention to cover closing cost for a new home. I never used that benefit because i was not ready to become an home owner.
I stopped working with the hospital over 4 years ago and relocated to another state. I am now looking to purchase my first home and decided to take advantage of the benefits i have set in place.
When i contacted 1199, i was originally given the Pension department. I was told that i could borrow moneys from my pention towards a new home but it took several steps.
Step 1: I had to request a Pension estimate which will take a month for me to receive. I ordered it and recieved it.
Step 2: Request an application be mailed to me because the online applicaton will be denied because i am not at retirement age.
During the step 2 process i was transferred to the mortgage department, where i was informed that the reason i got transfered to that department becuase i didn't have any money in my Pension Fund. I was never asked whether i received an estimate and the amount it showed. I was immediately shut down and was told that i should check out non-profit organizations online for the state i currently live in to see whats out there.
My estimate clearly states my current accraul rate multiplied by my average final pay multiplied by years of credit future service equal my annual future service benefit as $4,942.61 from age 55-65.
Each time i call i am getting someone who has no clue whats on the web or what our Pension package contains.
The date to purchase my home is quickly approaching and feel I am getting a run around for my own invested Pension.
I spoke with someone from the Pension Funds departmeent and they stated that their job is completed, which is providing me with the Pension FUnds estimate.
Their solution is for me to request a supervisor who is never available to speak with or they keep you on hold until you finally decide to disconnect the call.
I have yet to know who the supervisor is and what department i should be contacting because it seems no one in the office knows whats next.
I was also told that if i send an application in, it will automatically be denied because i am not at retirement age.
I was depeding on this and was looking towards this for the last 10years, just to be given the run around when the time is at hand.
I am so dissappointed in the incompetent people that 1199SEIU have in place to take care of things that are so critical in someones life.
I would like answers and solutions of what to do and where to go, this is just disturbing.
Michael Kaiser Chief Pension Officer only sends me my estimate and noting else is in their department it seems.
