ACN Communications Company is full of it!!!
Yes, I am one of those whom joined them as an independent rep last Aug 04'. I did not renew in Aug 05' because I could NEVER find anyone whom would signup for ACN services... not even in my family or close friends. NOW I see why.
I expanded my services with them and took on the local calling (large pack). Months after first acquiring toll-free and long distance. This took place about 3 months ago, after I waited out my SBC contract agreement, to avoid a severance penalty. BIG MISTAKE!!!
ACN said it is my fault that I picked a 312 dialup number for my Chicago account when I signup for their dial-up internet services! All they offered was 312 area code numbers for the net, as I spoke directly to their service technicians many times. Concerning dialup problems, as they switched my connection dialup number a few times always using the 312 area code... as they said they have no 773 codes to use, later on.
So now, my two month total phone bill from ACN is $1,382.08 and climbing as I ended all services via phone request!!! They have put a collection agency on me too! NCO Financial Systems,Inc. and I have 35 days to respond and pay-off the debt from Sept 30,05', or it will be reported to all of the credit agencies. Me, a guy with a pretty good FICO score. You see, ACN had been charging me nothing but LONG DISTANCE rates on all of my calls to any place in the US, unknown to me. I can call a friend 1 mile from my house and ACN will charge me long distance; anytime I use ACN internet dialup they will charge me long distance rates. They did not activate my large pack of local calling and did not tell me. My local calling section on my bill says "-$2". Now how can someone be charged a minus 2 dollars on local calling?
They say everything is my fault. I should have known that a 312 area code(Chgo-Downtown) is a long distance charge from a 773 area code number. They say it was not their responsibility to know. So what kind of phone service people are they, to say such to a customer-consumer? They, whom can't even operate their services correctly in the 3rd largest city in America??? As they brag about having their services in over 14 countries now.
I will fight them tooth and nail! I will use several consumer legal sources. I will not be another EASY white collar victim of business as usual! Can you imagine, what is the difference in this kind of BS and the old 419 Nigerian scam? Paperwork con-games are worldwide, even in the utilities services arena!

PS: I am on a fixed income monthly due to permanent disabilities. I initially thought I could find a way off of disability with a fresh start/chance via ACN. WRONG!

I worked for ACN as a customer service representative at their call center in Gwinn, Michigan for 2 years and that was 2 years too long. As call center employees we were coached on how to get people to stay with the phone, internet or energy services. We were also taught how to double bill customers and were told that it was perfectly legal. While I was an employee, I made the big mistake of being nice to the Human Resources manager. Next thing I knew I was arrested and dragged out of the center and told I was "stalking" this b***h. I had to get an attorney to get my name cleared. All the time I was allowed back at work but could not be within 100 feet of her yadayadayada. Finally I had my day in court and she confessed that she fabricated all the accusations so she could get attention. Her co-worker in HR committed suicide. Rumor had it that it was due to this woman and what she was doing to employees. Guess what? I lost my job afterall because I asked corporate office in Farmington Hills to clear my file . They wouldnt saying that I was now "retaliating". This person is still working there and hiring people. If you ever are considering working for ACN in ANY capacity or having their services, I hope you will really thing about it.
