I was approached by an ADT salesman after moving in to our new home.It sounded like a good deal at the time...save on insurance, have security for my home, and you get 2-way voice, remote phone access, siren, etc... and you can cancel your contract any time you are not completeely satisfied! Sound to good to be true? It is!

After one month we recieved our first bill...$44.07. the next month more of the same except we discovered that our service wasn't being monitoried. We found out because our alarm went off...we turned of the alarm and waited for ADT to respond, they never called. We called them and they informed that we didn't have a permit from the city of Arlington, we needed to get one and fax it to them. I asked why wern't we told of this when we signed up?Their reply was we can send you a letter. A letter?

Acouple of days later we recieved a letter...dated 8 days after our contract was signed but its postmarked 40 days after we signed our contract!? I called ADT and asked to cancel our service it was to vague and no service was being rendered. they informed me that if I cancelled it would cost me 75% of the total contract wich came out to be like $780.00! or just pay $44.07 a month for 3 years for no services rendered. I asked if a service tech could come over and at least fix the alarm and they told me it was working fine...yet the can't tell me when it goes off!?

If you do get their service contract read it...it says 3 year initial term the agreement automatically continues for 1 year unless subcriber gives written notice of cancellation 30 days prior to end of 3 year contract!

I work for ADT, and ICON sold thousands of accounts over to ADT, so even if you were with ICON/SAI, you might be with ADT now.

Icon Security is not ADT.

I worked for Icon Security two summers ago and they are not affiliated with ADT. They do use many of the same equipment, but they do there monitoring services through SAI who used to do all of the monitoring services for ADT when they were starting up. Icon Security tries to give our customers the best experience that we can and don't try to to rip anyone off.

Why you don't go and get a permit

In all counties you have to go and get a permit. Its not that expensive. You should have been checking the systems once a month just to see if everything is fine with it.

Notice of 3 day right to cancel in contract

I used to work for ADT in the billing department. Let me give everyone a tip or two. The salesperson gets a commission for selling you the ADT alarm and service. Therefore making the sale is their top priority. The sales rep quickly goes over the info in the contract BEFORE you sign the agreement. Upon signing, you have 3 days to cancel the agreement before incurring any charges. It states several things in the contract. One.. It is YOUR responsibility to contact the monitoring center and test your system... ADT advises doing this at least monthly. It is YOUR responsibility to make sure your system is working. And the most common error made that causes a persons system to not be monitored, is that they put their cell phone number down for a phone number so when the system gets hooked up, the monitoring station never gets a signal from your cell phone. So make sure you verify all of your information on the contract as being correct. The billing department is stand alone and located in florida. the billing department ONLY covers billing and cancellation requests. Any problems or questions requarding your system need to be addressed with your monitoring center. Or your sales rep. Also please note.. once your sales rep enters your contract information into the database at his office, you begin incurring charges. This is all done automatically. If you have questions or concerns, start with your local sales rep, then the monitoring center, then finally the billing department. If your service is not working, or you deem your system to not be working it is up to you to contact adt and let them know. They will all do everything they can to help resolve your issues, including giving credit on your bill. I know this I did it daily..
