I worked for this COMPANY for ONE DAY. Because I kept asking how much I was going to get paid and the boss had no IDEA. I asked over and over all day, I got a PROBABLY AMOUNT. She was very unsure. Infact, everyone was UNSURE. I responded to an add in the paper for AN ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT BUT WHEN I GOT THERE IT WAS TELEMAKETING. Basically the telemarketers answer calls in response to coupons mailed to the consumer stating a good deal on carpet cleaning. for about $99.00, HOWEVER the telemarketers will TELL YOU, NOT ASK YOU different services they offer and if you do not respond they will have the service completed at the time of service and want to get paid. This company has another location in NY. I also called several times for my one day pay and NO ONE EVER CALLED BACK!!! These people will tell you whatever you want to hear!! BE CAREFUL!

Wage & Hour Division, not Unemployment

In Michigan, the agency that can help you out is the Wage & Hour Division of the Michigan Department of Labor. They are a completely separate entity from the unemployment folks. With a quick Google search you should be able to track down the W&H website. On the site there is a form for you to fill out. W&H will take it from there. No need for a lawyer (unless the employer raises a viable defense to owing you any money). Best of luck!

Whenever you see that you're on a dead-end road, turn around immediately. Don't follow it all the way into the woods and end up getting stuck.

#3Consumer Suggestion

I have read this exact same situation over and over again. This is what people say: ?I had a funny feeling about this. I knew that something didn't look right. But, I went ahead and stuck it out anyway? Or: ?I knew that this was a scam. It didn't look right. But, I went ahead and paid the money anyway, cause I didn't want to make anyone mad.? Listen, people sometimes end up getting killed because they don't listen to their instincts. There is a book called ?THE GIFT OF FEAR? by Gavin de Becker. It explains all this. Instinctively, your body is reacting to signals that you may not even be consciously aware of. Something is off. It could be the way somebody is behaving. Or, their speech patterns. Regardless, if you have a strong suspicion that something isn't right, get the hell out. In your case, the idiots who offered you the job had all the wrong answers. In a case like that, you tell them that you need to go to your car for a minute. You get in, turn the key, and away you go. Didn't you ever dump a date by pretending to go to the bathroom? From now on, stop and think for a minute when you find yourself in a new situation. If it doesn't look right, PASS. Walk away. Run away. Hit somebody over the head with a beer bottle if you have to. But, you get out, while you still can. In your case, a day's labor isn't worth much. All you lost was some time. Hopefully, you learned from the experience.

the wage security people (unemployment) should collect it for you at min wages. May take 4 weeks.
