Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
It pays to do your homework before commiting to a company that has constantly misguided their own people. I've been employed with the company on 3 separate occasions since the year 2000 and I am currently employed with them. No, that is not a misprint. I've left the company on 3 separate occasions only to find myself back with them in hopes that perhaps they may make it more attractive to those who want to work for them. Perhaps my personal experience will shed some light and open the eyes to those who are considering a career with Allied Barton.

As I mentioned above, since the year 2000, specifically the pay, it has always been the same -nothing more, nothing less. I currently make $9.50/hr. Now, one may be thinking: how does one make it with today's standard of living? It's impossible -unless you are retired and are looking to supplement your income with extra cash or you have a friend(s) or significant other that is also helping to meet the financial needs.

This is a multi-million dollar company that has been in existance for nearly 50 years. One does not have to think so far as to why can't the company increase the pay. This explains why the company has such a high turnover of security guards who don't stay employed very long especially in my area where I am located here in Upstate N.Y. outside of Albany.

I've worked many area sites since 2000 and was making $9.50/hr. and I still am today. St. Mary's Hospital in Troy, N.Y. is one of the most complex sites where it is not your typical sit-down site. Believe me, it's not a vacation by any means!! The call volume for in-house hospital activity is staggering. Just to provide a brief background to those that are not aware of what situations that we respond to, in addition to our regularly routine patrol rounds that we perform inside and outside the hospital campus, we respond to fire and medical emergencies on site, assaults, domestic disturbances, unwanted people not allowed on hospital property, vandalism, vehicle accidents -whether that be property damage accidents, or accidents that involve hit and run, power outages, lost and found property and thefts, with thefts being the most common call we respond to. We work hand in hand constantly with local law enforcement. With over 180 incident calls in 2007, currently, we're on pace to shatter that in 2008. For us guards, including myself, and for all we do at the site I currently work at, $9.50 is no good -it's not worth the stress we go through at this site -in general $9.50 cannot and will not make it with today's economy.

I ask myself, as many others have: how can the company not cater to the needs of the security guards and increase overall pay? After all my years being employed with the company, I may never know that answer. I do feel the company is stagnant and not growing at all. Could it be greed? Is there unfair and unlawful business practices that are going on behind the scenes where there are those that are benefiting for their own moral and personal gain? Could it be the company going under as some have been led to believe? The answer to these and other questions that people may have may lie within those that govern this company. Anyone can form their own opinions as to how this company treats their own people. To me, it's a total shame and it's indescribable that this company is still in existance.

You expect Private Security Contractors Not to Rip you Off?

#2Consumer Comment

The fact that you have apparently been with these rip-off artists without a raise since 2000 says a lot for your integrity and not theirs. I used to work for these people and I am surprised that they havent' figured out a reason to fire you so they could hire someone else to work cheaper and then pocket the change. You must be a young white male? A military retiree? You should have read about them in the Rip Off Report before going to work for the cheap scumbag outfit. THEY DO NOT GIVE A d**n ABOUT YOU OR YOUR CONCERNS! YOU ARE JUST AN EXPENSE TO THEM. A USEFUL TOOL AND A COMMODITY.PERIOD. If the contract at the hospital is lost, your job will be gone and YOU will be blamed. You can bet they have NOT kept the price they are charging the hospital the same like your wages. They probably have raised it a bunch BUT are paying you guys the same thing as when you started. If you agitate for a raise, they will just fire you, get some idiot in there and just keep on going business as usual only YOU wil be out of a job, blackballed with job references from the depths of hell and they will make it so that you not only will never work again but you will not be able to get an apartment, buy a car, or any of the innumereable ways they have to F*** you up! And they will ENJOY doing it. They do NOT appreciate your work. They do NOT give a d**n about you or your personal welfare. YOU are an expendible, interchangeable body in a cheap polyesther uniform. And with this bad economy, a steady paycheck coming in beats having NO paycheck at all. TAKE IT FROM ME! I KNOW WHAT KIND OF HELL THESE PEOPLE CAN BRING DOWN ON YOU BECAUSE THEY DID IT TO ME! And it is getting harder and harder to get ANY kind of job... IF you want to get out, make SURE you have another job to go to that will give you a steady paycheck and whatever you do, DO NOT EXPRESS YOUR JOB DISSATISFACTION TO ANYONE AT YOUR JOB SITE and I do mean NOBODY! The other guards you think may be your friends will backstab you in a heartbeat bevause of a few minutes overtime until your replacement can be found. You sound like you would be better off working for the police or sheriff's department than a stupid, minimum wage, deadend, nowhere security job. If I were you, I would seriously consider it. All private security guard contracting companies are the SAME -- no benefits, no retirement except social security and they are trying to fgure out now how to get out of paying that! It's like being pimped out on the street corners and after all of those years of constant abuse, what do you end up with? I am having to FIGHT for my social security disability benefits --after I was hurt saving lives on a sorry PRIVATE SECURITY CONTRACTING JOB and I got nothing for it...they didn't even have the decency to take me to the ER like OSHA mandates supervisors to do. But try getting an answering machine to take you anywhere and that was the only way to communicate with "the office" even though they had high-risk posts and should have had a guy in the field.THEY WENT BANKRUPT! One of the owners of that company fled to Mississippi apparently to ditch the creditors but a lawsuit brough her back and she is presently an operations manager for another cheap security company back in Austin,Texas. I thought about sueing her but she will get hers sooner or later... And it will NOT be from me. If you ever leave Security Hell, you will probably be OUT for good. Do not rely on them for a reference and try to find a cover story for the wasted years being treated like a cotton patch peon. It's your choice.
