That might work. But I have a question, won't they then have YOUR fax number? And couldn't they then just send out stuff to you?

Want to have fun...use a fax machine and late at night call their fax number (got to get it from them of course). Then put some papers together and tape them into a never-ending loop---sending it through your fax machine. Your fax will keep sending page after page until their machine runs out of paper and/or toner. Make sure you at least put some scribbles on the fax you send so they will have unusable paper and they can't just stick it back into their machine. From the book from George Hayduke 100 Dirty Tricks....Done this...it works!

Since they feel they can try to bully you with idle threats of legal action, give them the name of your County Attorney. Tell them that if they break the law one more time with threats, they will be dealing with him/her on a regular basis, once you press charges against them. Allied just got sued big time in Minnesota. They paid a very heavy fine. Obviously, they haven't learned their lesson. Tell them the only attorney you have is the County Attorney who will proceed with legal action against them if they continue to harass you and threaten you. That should get rid of them. It worked for me. I even sent them a letter that if they even thought about putting a negative entry on my credit file, I'd go after them with that also. Gee, I haven't heard a thing from them, and nothing was put on my credit reports. Good luck, and keep everyone informed.

For one thing, they can't bother your social security benefits. For another, agencies in general are trying to get ready for the phasing in of the new bankruptcy law. Just send Allied a written notice to cease and desist, send it registered mail. Then participate in your lawsuit. The problem with collection agencies in general is that they collect on a figure sent them. Whether that figure is inflated or even valid at all is not their concern. As the consumer you are expected to protect yourself from fraudulent collections and use of your identity. That each consumer should be proactive in this way is only as it should be. That they should pay bills they legitimately owe is as it should be. That collection agencies should be held to a rigid standard is also as it should be. The next time you get a call, let them identify themselves, confirm your identity, then hang up. They are prohibited from contacting you, let alone calling you again for 24 hours. If it's not a good time to talk, tell them. Keep a record if they continue to call. If they leave abusive messages, record them. And if you happen to get sn sgent who seems reasonable, try to treat them the same way.
