Jesse, You never mentioned the amount of the alleged debt. This is very important. Very rarely will any third party collector/junk debt buyer sue on any amount less than $1000. And, they cannot LEGALLY get a judgement unless they sue you first. That 30 day period means absolutely nothing at all and does not affect your rights in any way if you fail to respond in that time period. At this point they are fishing, and providing false and misleading information to scare and confuse you in hopes that you will give them more information or even make a payment. Cut off all contact, ignore them. The next letter you get, do not open it. Mark one line through your name/address and write "not at this address", "return to sender" and drop it in the big blue mailbox. This is nothing to stress over. It is very unlikely they could even validate the debt, without your help!
