In April of 2013 I leased a brand new Dodge Ram 1500 Express. The term of the lease was a three year note which I was never more than five days past due during the term. As my lease was coming to a close, I decided that I wasn't quite ready to turn my vehicle in because I was having a hard time finding a new vehicle to fit my needs. At this time I decided to give Ally a call to see what their policy was on lease extensions.

After speaking with a representative, he informed me that they allow extensions up to an extra three months that must be renewed each month until the three months had been exhausted. Since I was still without a new vehicle, I decided to go with the extension.

During the lease term, my payment was $258.00 but, with the extension it would be increased to $380.19. Since my lease was set to expire in a few days, I agreed to the terms and filled out some paperwork required and made the payment over the phone.

After making my extension payment, I found a new vehicle 22 days after filing my lease extension. About a month later, I receive an invoice in the mail stating that I owe $881.10 for 22 days of daily extension charges at a rate of $40.05/day (after I had already extended my lease for an extra month).

In total, Ally is claiming that I owe 1701.60, with my one month extension of 380.19 going toward the total as a "credit", bringing my total down to $1321.41. The other charges were 210.60 for excess mileage which should have been prorated for the extra month that I had extended (this was discussed with the representative during the extension), and an excess ware charge totaling 557.50 which I am responsible for (excess ware was never an issue).

After Speaking with the representative, I was told that the paperwork I had filled out wasn't done so properly. They gladly took my money without ensuring everything they needed was filled out properly.

A simple follow up phone call could have easily corrected the error that I was ENTIRELY UNAWARE of! I have no issue paying for what I think is fair (excess ware) but, to be charged twice for the month is poor business practice. I'm not looking for anything more or less than what is fair.

I was led to believe that I had successfully extended my lease with no issues to worry about. As it turned out, that was clearly not the case. I will never buy, lease, or bank with Ally Financial again. I suggest the same for anyone else looking for a financial institution. Please let my experience by your warning!
