Complaint Review: Angies List -

DO NOT SIGN UP FOR AL AS A BUSINESS OWNER. I loathe Angie's List. They have stolen $2100 from me so far in a disingenuous contract. I began to question why my leads were nothing like what was promised, in quantity, budget, and quality. Then I was told that I, a kitchen + interior designer, was in the home remodeling category with architects and contractors, after 7 months.

That sales rep was then magically no longer working for the company. After 2 months in dispute and "research" they claim, from recorded calls and investigation that they won't share, that I agreed to be in that category because Interior Design was saturated. So, they expect me to believe that I agreed to pay $2100 for leads that aren't in my category. Manipulation.

From the beginning their sales rep, in trying to get me to sign up, provided a fake name and number to contact as my 5th review, because she could not wait 10 minutes for my actual 5th review contact. Honest, huh? I was told by the rep that they couldn't reach this client with this name and the number didn't work - well, who are they? That's not the name I provided. Fraud 1. I was told that I would be in zones of high worth to stay on par with my high-end expectations - that AL clients are discerning and spend more. I received a quote for a closet installation in mid-town with a total budget of $2500. That's my fee.

The leads are garbage - absolutely nothing of quality or merit. I haven't spoken to anyone with a budget over $5k. This is what I paid for? I was told that I supposedly agreed to be in the home remodeling category because Interior Design was saturated, so in admission of their crap service they offered to refund me half of what I already paid $1000, if I continued my contract. I want nothing more to do with this company.

They are holding me hostage and now want to charge me 35% to cancel, so in the end I will have paid close to $3k for not a single valuable lead in 8 months. They duped me, a sole proprietor startup, and they continue to use the weight of their name to bully people into paying them more money. STAY FAR AWAY FROM CONTRACTS WITH ANGIES LIST. They don't service the business owner, and they don't AT ALL have valuable leads or clients.

Oh, and the best part, I have 3 reviews from when I signed up in 2019. In 2020 I received a notification that I have been awarded a SUPER SERVICE AWARD. For what!? I don't have a single contract with anyone from Angie's List, and I'm somehow a star for having 3 reviews when I was told I would have more leads if I had 5 reviews!? The story always changes. The rewards are bogus. They will say anything to sell the contract, and then strong arm you to stay in the contract when you're dissatisfied, and they haven't held up their end of the contract. So, now I have to deal with them on my credit report, because I'm not paying them another dime to fail me further.
