As a At&t employee I wanted to say something about this report. First it is NEVER ok to hang up on a customer. Something I never have done. Now about that the red marks on the back of the phone. This indicates liquid damage, it is a chemical reactioon to water. So some how that tab got wet maybe the phone was not submersed in water but there is no way to know that for sure. So the manufactor not (At&t or verizon, sprint or any other cell phone provider) determines that this would void the warranty. As well as most other electronic equpiment. That is why we offer insurance for accidental damage. Water damage does not always make the phone stop working right away it could take months depending on different situations. I dropped mine in the toliet two months ago and it still works. It was totally submersed so i got lucky. It may stop working though at any time. so when you say your other two or working it may stop sometime down the road. The way a 2yr contract works is At&t offers a free or discounted phone with an agreement from you that you will stay with At&t for two years. Actually At&t loses money on the sale of a reduced price phone. At&t and every other carrier makes up for it on the service of the 2 year commitment. So if someone has a rock bottom rate plan with no features on it and gets a free phone or pays a little bit for it. At&t makes little to no money on that contract. Usually a couple months before the contract expires you would be eligible to resign a new contract which would allow you to get a new phone for free or at a reduced price depending on the promotion at the time. Lastly you state that you have been a paying customer for many years. Im sure At&t appreciates that. that why the offer discounted and sometimes free phones with a contract. Not many other companies offer discounted or free stuff for loyal paying customers. For example I pay my landlord rent every month for now 3 years I never gotten even a xmas card let anything for free or reduced rent. what about my internet provider been paying for years never got a free computer every month I go grocery shopping never get free groceries. my point is you are paying for a service which you getting at a fair price.
