"McLemore Advance Concepts" is a.k.a. "ATX Marketing Group". Luckily I found these reports filed against McLemore after my first interview but before I wasted a whole day on a call back interview the next day.

ATX Marketing Group is not listed as a registered business anywhere in the Ausin community listings: Austin American Statesman, Phone book, etc. In addition ATX Marketing does not have any form of website, logo, permanent sign on its door, or anything else identifying it. I asked Ryan about him not having any legitimate business listings and he quickly became defensive and angry. I also made clear if I felt he was inappropriately distributing any information from my application or resume' that I would not hesitate to report him to the police.

My first thought to the 'educated' response from the ATX employee was that they're calling the ex-employees of ATX uneducated when they were working as our equal, getting treated and paid the same. Everyone emphasized how selective their hiring process was too (I was told they looked for the sharpest people and only hired one or two per 25 interviewees). If they actually looked at the marketing definition, it doesn't fit the field rep job description at all. We weren't developing desirable products and figuring out how best to get them to consumers, we used 'the law of averages' to bother every single person who walked out of Walmart or something of the like to sell the same D.A.R.E. logo-ed shirt from 20 years ago in XL to anyone nice enough to stop by the table with the sweaty, cute girls. Even their Web site a) has typos, and b) eludes to the 'Fortune 500 companies' they represent when D.A.R.E. is the only client. Even the claim that they promote NASCAR is bull because its the 'sister company' that takes care of that. There is no market research, no product development, no marketing skills needed for this job. And if you'll notice, the complaints on here are from people who quit after a week, not that failed at a monkey's job. I commend people and companies that help out charities and non-profits but the fact is, for the most part, D.A.R.E. doesn't work and was outlawed in California for alleged false propaganda and scare tactics. And our next project was finding man power to fundraise for children to have surgery to correct a cleft lip. That is a noble idea, but in my opinion there are countless more life threatening or life enhancing charities that need more help. Chants and bell ringing can't make anyone with a conscious mind stomach that job.

I wanted to include a definition of marketing to aide those without the education or a handy Webster's. "Marketing is a societal process which discerns consumers' wants, focusing on a product or service to fulfill those wants, attempting to move the consumers toward the products or services offered. Marketing is fundamental to any businesses growth. The marketing teams (marketers) are tasked to create consumer awareness of the products or services through marketing techniques. Unless it pays due attention to its products and services and consumers' demographics and desires, a business will not usually prosper over time. Marketing tends to be seen as a creative industry, which includes advertising, distribution and selling. It is also concerned with anticipating the customers' future needs and wants, which are often discovered through market research. Essentially, marketing is the process of creating or directing an organization to be successful in selling a product or service that people not only desire, but are willing to buy. Therefore good marketing must be able to create a "proposition" or set of benefits for the end customer that delivers value through products or services." (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marketing) McLemore Advanced Concepts is not deceiving anyone. I only wish that every company that I have ever worked for took me on a day of observation where I could see exactly what I was agreeing to before filling out a W2 form. It's true: not everyone can do this job. Many will try and many will fail, but so will many car technicians, retail associates, entrepreneurs, and presidents. MAC markets themselves and their products. This is not any different from any retailer where you get your groceries, hair dye, car, or Christmas tree except a portion of the "mark-up" just so happens to help out a charity. I don't remember the last time I purchased a roll of toilet paper and a percentage went to D.A.R.E. That's right...it has never happened. For those who are concerned with the many negative reports on MAC, please keep this in mind: those are from individuals who could not succeed in that business. I encourage those individuals to take out their frustrations at the driving range or batting cages. Hurting businesses that are doing a good thing for society is unethical. Before you type something out of anger, remember the individuals you are hurting because of your selfish pride.
