It's easy to ask "Why did you let them do this to you" when you are not the person dealing with the problem. Following people around and taking pictures takes time and transportation. Hiring a lawyer takes money. This company uses fraudulent business practices. They charge up your bill before you even realize what is happening. You get into trouble before you even know it. My heart goes out to this consumer. My mother lives on a very fixed income. She has to choose between having her car fixed and eating. She doesn't have the money for this. I want this consumer to know that I also filed a report against Auto Advantage. We are pursing charges against them and have filed a report with the BBB. We may also contact the news media for investigation because many people are being ripped off by this company and it needs to be stopped. They may be contacted by the media for their story. I hope they will be willing to participate to get this company under control or put out of business.

Why did you not get a lawyer? If this had happened to me I would have gotten a camera with a date on the pictures and followed the car around town and taken pictures of the people driving it while it was not in my possession. Any lawyer could have had a field day with this company and probably got you your car back without having to pay the bill after what they did. It is against the law to use a motor vehicle without the owners permission, it is called Grand Theft. Did you file a report with the Better Business Bureau? Did you contact your Attorney General? They have a fraud division and most mechanical shops if you are going to have a bill $3,000.00 more than quoted would need your permission to charge that much additional. I hate to say anything bad about your father but he really failed you on this, he should have known some of the things I mentioned, and should not have gone down without a fight
