Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
On January 9, 2007 my 1999 Expedition's engine blew in Brentwood. We decided to take my SUV to the nearest auto shop, which was Auto Advantage. We were told that the Expedition needed a new engine and the quote was $5,000.00. We agreed to that and work got underway on the SUV.

After taking an entire month to finish the job, we went to go pick up our Expedition with our $5,000.00 in hand. Once we got to the shop, the owner informed us that the bill was now $8,000.00 and he was going to begin charging $25 a day storage charges until we picked our vehicle up. We told them that it would take a week or two before we could come up with the rest of the money.

While we were desperately trying to come up with the money, we started noticing that our Expedition was being drove around town. The owner of the shop was letting his daughter drive our car without our knowledge.

Not long after we witnessed that, the owner called us and informed us that he had put a mechanics lean against our car and the title was being switched over to his name. I was only 18 years old and I worked so hard to make all my payments on the car on time and this news devastated me.

After fussing with the owner for too long, my father and I decided to go ahead and get me another car that would be more dependable and forget about this awful experience. I was able to come up with a small down payment and get a new car the following week. I went back to Auto Advantage for the last time that week to get my possesions out of the Expedition.

While I was there, the owner's daughter had the nerve to tell me that the Expedition drives great and while they had it at their shop she drove it to pick up her friend. I also had to argue with the owner at Auto Advantage to get my tags off the car. He didn't want to return the tags to me. I'm guessing that he wanted the tags to stay on the Expedition so he could still drive the car while it was being covered under my insurance.

If that wasn't enough, I also noticed that my SUV was in awful condition when I went to get my possesions out of it. They had completely torn my car apart and had no respect for it what so ever. There was ciggarette burns in the seats and the crome caps that were on the rims had all fallen on.

While the Expedition was in my possesion, I took such great care of the interior and exterior of the SUV, so seeing it in this way really broke my heart. They had absolutly no respect for something that meant so much to me.

If you are having a problem with your vehicle, please do not take your car to Auto Advantage. They are dishonest and have extremely bad business ethics. I would hate to see what happened to me and my Expediton happen to someone else. Stay away from Auto Advantage in Brentwood, TN!

It's easy to ask "Why did you let them do this to you" when you are not the person dealing with the problem. Following people around and taking pictures takes time and transportation. Hiring a lawyer takes money. This company uses fraudulent business practices. They charge up your bill before you even realize what is happening. You get into trouble before you even know it. My heart goes out to this consumer. My mother lives on a very fixed income. She has to choose between having her car fixed and eating. She doesn't have the money for this. I want this consumer to know that I also filed a report against Auto Advantage. We are pursing charges against them and have filed a report with the BBB. We may also contact the news media for investigation because many people are being ripped off by this company and it needs to be stopped. They may be contacted by the media for their story. I hope they will be willing to participate to get this company under control or put out of business.

Why did you not get a lawyer? If this had happened to me I would have gotten a camera with a date on the pictures and followed the car around town and taken pictures of the people driving it while it was not in my possession. Any lawyer could have had a field day with this company and probably got you your car back without having to pay the bill after what they did. It is against the law to use a motor vehicle without the owners permission, it is called Grand Theft. Did you file a report with the Better Business Bureau? Did you contact your Attorney General? They have a fraud division and most mechanical shops if you are going to have a bill $3,000.00 more than quoted would need your permission to charge that much additional. I hate to say anything bad about your father but he really failed you on this, he should have known some of the things I mentioned, and should not have gone down without a fight
