Torrance Superior Court Judge Mark Arnold went along with the jury's recommendation that Barry Wendell Mosley, now 49, be put to death for his crimes.

A death sentence was handed down Thursday for a man who murdered two women and a teenager in their homes, raped two of the victims and sexually assaulted an 8-year-old girl in the Athens area of Los Angeles,California in 1999 and 2000.

Torrance Superior Court Judge Mark Arnold went along with the jury's recommendation that Barry Wendell Mosley, now 49, be put to death for his

crimes.

Mosley was convicted of three counts of first-degree murder for the April 17, 1999, slayings of Shirley Austin, 54, and her 17-year-old daughter, Bessie Carter, and the June 7, 2000, slaying of Adrienne Reed, 29.

All three were strangled, and Reed and the teenager were raped.

Jurors also convicted Mosley of one count each of attempted murder and aggravated sexual assault involving Reed's then-8-year-old daughter, and found him guilty of residential burglary charges involving the two homes.

The jury found true the special circumstance allegations of murder during a rape, murder during a sodomy, murder during a burglary and multiple murders.

Austin and her daughter had known Mosley for a period of time, while he met Reed at a liquor store and went back to her home to watch the Lakers in Game 1 of the NBA finals.

(AND WHAT KIND OF WOMAN INVITES A MAN TO HER HOME ON THE FIRST DATE--ONE SHE MEETS AT A LIQUOR STORE YET!???!!!)

Mosley was arrested on June 9, 2000, during a traffic stop in South Los Angeles,CA.

He was initially charged with Reed's slaying, then charged in December 2000 with murdering Austin and her daughter. Mosley has remained behind bars

since then.

"He stands out. He's in a league of his own," Deputy District Attorney Steven Schreiner said of the defendant after the jury recommended a death sentence last month.

The prosecutor called Mosley "a predator ... who preys on truly innocent people."
