I stopped by Benchmark Jewelers store just looking for a watch. I had in mind to purchase a $60 watch some time soon. The store manager came to me, established trust, and showed me several products. I kept telling him about my low budget, but he insisted that I see his merchandise without 'obligation'.

The sales person put on me one of the most expensive wristwatches he had, and asked me what did he had to do to convince me to purchase it. At this point he had offered me to pay only $159 mo. No interest for 18 mo. And interest only on balance at end of that period. He said that as a manager, he could override de credit card rules, so I had nothing to fear. And that if I have 'any problem' just to bring the watch back to him.

He also said the I would never have to buy another watch for life. He promised a 15% discount of listed price. He said the watch was a 'bomb', and it could measure altitude and it had many other great features.

The whole thing was hard to resist not to buy, especially when I was tired and hungry and willing to leave. I found that the only way to end that conversation was to buy it. I assumed he was telling the truth and would honor his word. I asked for a written statement of his promises but he said not to worry about it. He will always be there to fix anything.

Facts: I fell for it. I singed up the credit slip, I could not see the small underwritings. I assumed as in any honest business I could return the merchandise if not satisfied. I went home, and noticed the amount was outrageous high, and the packaging was not original. I called for return, but the manager was not in the store.

Two days later I found the band was too tight, and hurting my wrist, and I stopped using it. A week from purchase date, I went to the store to try to return it, but I was told by the manager, there was nothing he could do. He had managed to trick me into buying it and now it was not his problem anymore.

He could not fix the band, because they don't have tools.

The agreed payment plan was not honored either. I was given only 12 months and the interest was 23% when I could buy something with 8% on my other credit card.

The watch only worked for a few weeks, then stopped. I do not have the habit of buying things and defaulting on the credit payments, but how can I pay for something that it does not work, and it does not fit me, and have no appropriate inexpensive service?

The damage this event has caused me is not just destroying my credit score, but robbing me of my peace of mind. I need to clear this debt before it becomes a collection problem in a few days.

I found that the same watch is sold in other stores online, for about 3000. That seems to much still. I was just looking for a $60 watch! All I could afford.

I contacted the credit company, GE money, but they say it is not their problem.

I went to the store again lately, and talked to the same manager, and it was just an argument; he insisted that he could not receive the watch, and that it was not his problem. He is just the manager, he could not change anything, in contradiction to moment of sale.

I am still looking for justice, and that my debt gets cleared with GE money.
