I went to another store, explained the whole thing to two people at the same time, and they replaced my defective CD/DVD set. I think that it sometimes helps to talk to two people at once. If it's just one person, then it's you versus that person. With two people, they look at each other and chat about it, and I think each of them feels: "hey, yeah, if this was my problem, I'd want some satisfaction, too!" Anyway, the second Best Buy store solved my situation, and maybe the key is just to go to a second or third store, if the first one won't help you, and explain it all over again and again till you get a bit of justice. Cheers!

Best Buy or any other retailer will not exchange or refund opened DVD or CD packages because there is the possibility that the DVD or CD has been copied. If the DVD or CD packaging has not been opened, you must have the receipt to request a refund within the retailer's refund policy period. If you do not have the receipt, the retailer does not know whether you are trying to exchange merchandise on stolen property. Think about it. If you were Best Buy and someone came to your store requesting a refund or exchange with an opened DVD or CD, or a refund or exchange without a receipt, would YOU give them the exchange or receipt?
