I bought a beautiful cockapoo from Birdwalk Farm in September 2009. I had several email conversations with Lucille Bailey prior to my purchase and believe that she knows her stuff when it comes to breeding. And I will tell you, my dog is really a solid dog--well put together, well socialized, smart and a beautiful example of a cockapoo. It does seem as though a lot of puppies come out of Birdwalk, but I don't believe it is a puppy mill.
Are the owners farmers who obviously live off the land? Definitely. Are the dogs that live there happy? Seem to be. I was struck by how calm the dogs all were and how friendly they were. Did I see any dogs that looked mistreated? Definitely not. These dogs are obviously a source of income for these people. They have good stock and they take time to socialize the pups. Do they live a different lifestyle than me? Yes. The first time I met people who lived off the land, it was an eye-opening experience for me, but I have found that different doesn't mean bad or mean spirited. Sometimes different can be scary or make us uncomfortable. But it doesn't make people bad people. What struck me about the living conditions? Absolutely dog friendly. Would I buy another pup from Birdwalk? Yes. My little guy still hugs me and cuddles into my shoulder just as he did when the Baileys handed him to me. A real love bug in training to be a therapy dog--smart, handsome, beautiful. CF Greenville, SC
