This is a bit unusual.  I am a retired CHP sergeant and do not like some of the things I read here.  But you have a good product.  Here goes.  In February, 2009, while still working, I was informed that one of my subordinates, Officer Stephen Mello, after being caught vandalizing state property located in the CHP office he was asigned to, was issued a bad guy letter.  Very soon thereafter he made a formal criminal complaint accusing me of trying to run him over in July of 2007.  Yes, 2 1/2 years later.  His excuse for waiting so long was that he reported it to two other commanders who had refused to do anything.  The subsequent investgation clearly, lt me repeat, clearly absolved  me of any wrongdoing.  In fact, the local sheriffs office did not want to do the investigation and thus the CHP did.  The county DA reviewed the report and declined to file charges for a lack of evidence.  When I got a VERY redacted copy of the report, it was clear to see Mellos' own witnesses completely had an opposite recollection of events.  I forgot to mention that during this alledged incident I was off duty and Mello was on duty.  Of course, had I done this serious offence, why was'nt I pulled over or stopped.

How come I never heard of this until February.  Cause it did not happen and he was mad becuse he got caught.  And we are expected to believe that commanders would ignore allegations of sergeants trying to run over officers.  Of course the CHP did not want to take him on for lying because he is known as a loud mouth whiner and I guess they did not wan to hear it.  This is also aguy who whies when you tell him not to hang out at the coffee shop for an hour and a half.  Of couse, his commander wold not do anyhing.  He's thegy thatevn though the state is facing a budget issue, and the civilain staff has taken a 14% pay cut,he cmmutes to work on state time.  The state is aware of this but, well, ya know.  So even though the vast majority of CHP employees are courageou, stand up people, there are a few who will do anything to try and ruin someone.  I have no way of nowig if Mellos lies will affect any future jobs I might apply for (I retired in June).  But I put this here because the powers to be just blow people like me off.  Whats really scary is they give these guys guns.  Whats also scary is the current commander knows Mello is off his rocker.  Afer giving him his bad guy letter, Mello came un-glued.  The commander came into the sergeants office and in front of three us (all sergeants) exclamd what a "psycho" Mello was.  But life contiues and nothing is ever done.
