Do not hire Chet Darby with Florida Building Services ! I recently hired Chet to be my general contractor on a fha203k home loan. Not only was he rude, stubborn and arrogant, he made a point to add a huge mark up on his sub- contractors bids. Chet charged us 10,000 for flooring, but the sub bid out the job at $4,400. Despite paying the $10,000, the subs refused to repair all of the floors for what they were being paid, and Chet pocketed the rest of the money. The same happened in the kitchen. Chet bid 7,000 for custom kitchen cabinets. We got half the cabinets for the same price. Even though we got lower cabinets only, we still had to pay for the whole job. Not only was he rude, untrustworthy and disrespectful, Chet was also down right the definition of fraud. He forged our names to draw checks, created false innvoices, refused to provide receipts, and withheld our contingency money... because he felt like he deserved more for providing a service. He also tried to extort $5,000. outside of the fha loan, and when we didn't give it to him, he took it out on every project he could. Chet had us pay for architectural drawings in the amount of 1,500. outside of the loan, and once they were paid, he charged us twice as much for the drawings for permitting fees within the loan. He also stole our last $1,000. in contigency money, because he "felt like he earned it for performing a service". He never paid for an exterminator as was outlined under our loan agreement, and our house is 120 yrs old with a history of termites. I fear for anyone who hires him to accomplish their dream of owning a beautiful home. He believes that Government money is "free" money, and has no respect for the fact that you will be paying on his shawdy work for the next 30 yrs! With interest!!!!! He just wants to make as much as he feels he is entitled to, with no regaurd to the customers desires or satisfaction. He should be locked up for government loan fraud!!!

While it is everyone's right to express their opinions, there are legal responsibilities for what one says. This individual has violated state and federal statutes in regard to slandering a company in public and has been subject to legal action.
The claims made are not only untrue but factually impossible to have happened. The program that is referred to by the author of the complaint is a loan program for buying and fixing up houses in need of repair. The program administered by a bank requires the owner to hire an independent 3rd party consultant to oversee the work. All activities are approved, performed then signed off by 3 people before the bank releases the funds to the contractor. This project was completed with 4 different payments meaning that the owner had to sign off on the work 4 times before it was completed. At any point the owner could have raised a concern with the consultant and funds would have been withheld until an approval was achieved. The consultants job is ensure work is performed to the banks standards per the written contract and is accepted by the owner as satisfactorily completed prior to all parties signing off.
In response to the specific accusations of theft and theft by deception I can only say that not only are these claims not possible as it would require all parties involved, including the owner, to conspire against themselves. They are criminal offenses and would have been reported to the local authorities. No reports were made. Invoices were created by their consultant. All checks were distributed and cashed without issue.
This report must be taken in the context of its author. A fearful customer who didn't fully understand what they were getting into and did not properly prepare themselves for home ownership of a house that was over 100yrs old and not fully remodeled.
