I have never seen such poor service, lack of care and downright bad business practices as I have seen from Coastside Services, Coastside Spas and the owner Charles East. My story with these crooks goes back so far that I don't even know where to begin talking about how I got screwed by Coastside Services, but I don't want my terrible experience to happen to anybody else. I wish I would've done more research about Coastside Services / Coastside Spas and their crooked owner Charles East before using this company to service my hot tub, I would've seen that this guy (Charles East) has already screwed over dozens of other innocent customers but I must say that my story still takes the cake.

I found Coastside Services by typing in "Half Moon Bay Hot Tub Service" into Google, and a webpage titled "Coastside Spas" came up. I needed them to fix a small leak in my hot tub. The leak wasn't very large, but it was starting to ruin my wooden deck so I thought I'd fix it. Charles East sent somebody to my house to "fix" my hot tub.

Coastside Services took almost 3 weeks to even make it out to my house, and I wish that they hadn't even ever came at all! I made an appointment, and Charles East said that one of his employees from Coastside Spas would be at my house in 3 days. The guy showed up a couple weeks later and I had actually completely forgot that I had called Coastside Services to fix my spa.

The spa technician looked at my hot tub and said it was a minor leak, and that he would have it fixed in no time. He quoted the job at $250 or something like that. He did his thing and I gave him the money.

One week later the hot tub began leaking again. I called Coastside Services and spoke with Charles East and told him about my problem. He assured me that he would send out one of his best guys to fix my problem. A few days later the guy came out and did a temporary fix it job while he waited for some part that my hot tub needed. The temporary fix job was a bit of an eyesore but it worked fine, so I didn't care all that much. Basically it was a big glob of epoxy that looked like crap and I could have done this myself.

I completely forgot about the leak because it was no longer a problem. A couple months later Coastside Services and Charles East calls me and tells me that he sent a guy from Coastside Spas to install my part. I informed him that I didn't need this because my hot tub works, and that there is no point in fixing something that isn't broken. He told me that these temporary fixes don't hold up, and for some reason I listened to him.

Coastside Services came out to my house and installed the part when I was out of town. They also billed me an additional $150 for the part that they installed. At this point I am furious because they never said that I would have to pay for this. They quoted the job already and I had paid for it. They did a horrible job and they should suck it up and pay for their mistakes.

When I returned I looked at the hot tub to see how Coastside Services repaired my hot tub, and this was a horrific experience. The Coastside Spas technician had broken one of the hot tub panels, and tried to fix it but did a very poor job. This panel is now grotesque to look at. He also spilled some type of glue all over my hot tub and deck, and left the cover to the hot tub electrical components open while it was raining. They are now rusted over and other spa technicians have told me that this will be a huge repair job in the future.

I called Charles East to complain and hopefully get my money back from Coastside Services. I spoke with Charles East, and he basically did nothing to fix anything. He said that they came out and fixed my hot tub. His exact words were "Well your hot tub isn't leaking anymore, is it?". Was he even listening to my story? Did he hear how his guys at Coastside Spas ruined my hot tub??? I wanted a full refund because of their poor job, and he told me that this was not possible. I am now left with a hot tub which is very unpleasant to look at and rusted over electrical components. My hot tub is worth much less (if anything at all) than before I told Coastside Services to fix it.

Basically Charles East is running a horrible business at Coastside Services and Coastside Spas. Their techs don't know what they are doing, and they refuse to pay for their mistakes. My experience with this Charles East and Coastside Services has left a foul taste in my mouth, and the mouths of many others. I don't see how people like this can remain in business.

This posting has no merit for several reasons.

1. We have no employees and never have. We are a small service business in Half Moon Bay. Charles does all the service work and his wife does the bookkeeping.

2. It seems to me if this person hired our company and we quoted the amount stated and that person paid it, they would not be unsure about the amount. How about a receipt? Did you pay cash? could have paid by check or credit card... we accept all of the above with receipt. Please feel free to call the BBB and report it. They like to know about bad business. Unless of course you are simply making this up.

So lets get to the real truth behind the lies in this posting and several other postings of similar content showing up on article websites.

Coastside Services was hired to provide telephone tech support and parts distribution services for Steve Barbarich of Choosedirect.com from September of 2008 to March of 2010. During that time we spoke with hundreds of Choosedirect customers who had purchased hot tubs from Steve Barbarich. Mr. Barbarich has been importing the Island Escape brand of spas from China and the resulting product quality proved to be substandard and not meeting any local, state or federal safety standards and as a result, many of the complaints we discussed with his customers involved repeated product failure, personal injury from overheating, water damage from plumbing failures and fires from substandard electrical components and wiring. We repeatedly warned Mr. Barbarich of the product failures advising him of his non-compliance with US federal safety laws. As the overwhelming number of calls continued to come in, we started advising consumers to contact the US Consumer Product Safety Commission when they complained of personal injury and property damage from the product. Since we were involved in the matter and it quickly became apparent that Steve Barbarich and Choosedirect.com had no intentions of stopping the production and correcting the safety violations and getting proper safety certification completed as required by federal law, we terminated our services and took the necessary steps to assist the consumers with any support we could legally offer and encourage them in reporting their concerns to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission. Since that time we have been working with a number of consumer advocacy agencies to get the word out about the severe safety concerns and apparent fraud being committed by Steve Barbarich and his staff at Choosedirect.com aka Directtohomeappliances.com.

Its not hard to find numerous substantiated consumer complaints searching google for Choosedirect.com, Steve Barbarich, Directtohomeappliances.com and so many more web sites he runs.

Since the negative postings online concerning Mr. Barbarich's less than scrupulous business dealings have likely adversely affected his business, including the damning evidence with the Better Business Bureau concerning Choosedirect.com, We know he has started an anonymous smear campaign to try an discredit those individuals who have the most information and evidence against him. I am definitely one of those individuals.

You will also find that our company is referenced in many of the posting as having provided satisfactory support even when Choosedirect.com staff continued to fail to support the product, pay for repairs or even return phone calls. We have so many substantiated congratulatory emails and correspondence from consumers we have helped, that this whole posting seems ridiculous to have to do, but since Mr. Barbarich seems bent on trying to destroy those people around him that tried to straighten him out and expose his business for what it is, its a necessary evil.

Steve Barbarich is the classic Narcissistic Sociopath who has no problem trying to redirect blame and responsibility to someone else for his failures.

By the way Steve, your BBB rating remains at an F, now with 202 complaints filed against you and your companies.
