I have had a policy with Colonial Life for 7 years I recently upgraded my policy for short term disability at the suggestion of a Colonial Ins. rep that came into the Station I work out of. This was Oct. 2012 She advised me that I was under insured should I develop an injury or illness.  In December I developed an issue for which I needed to see a specialist gastro-enterologist, saw my primary care according to my health care provider for a referal and was sent to the specialist who stated a colonoscopy was needed to see what was going on. This was done on Jan 19 2013. At this time he diagnosed me with colon cancer and sent me to a surgeon. Had the surgery in Feb. began chemo in March.

Initially Colonial said they would not pay me anything as the policy was considered new, even though the policy numbers remained the same, then after some arguing and rude representatives, they sent a check for $1000 the amount under the old policy. Now they are refusing to pay anything saying this was a pre-existing condition (prior to Jan 1 2013) even though I have the Gastro-enterologist/surgeon willing to sign an affidavit that they diagnosed me on Jan. 19, 2013. Colonial is now requesting all medical records from my Primary care Dr. even though she didn't treat me for this.  Chemo is $750 every 3 weeks so I could use the money not to mention I've been out of work Since Jan. 19. I have spoken to Colonial many times and have experienced some of the rudest customer service representative ever!

Colonial is an awful Company and are nice as long when you don't need them but don't count on them if you ever do! I am fortunate in some aspects, I have another policy with Prudential and they have been AWESOME, Once back to work i will be working with Human Resources (HR manager said we need to look at that) and the Union the replace Colonial for our 18 thousand employees nationwide!

Spoke to the representative at Colonial they are still trying to say I have a pre existing condition regardless of what the Doctor who preformed the test and made the diagnosis says. They are digging and delaying in hopes of not honoring their insurance plan! This seems to be the Standard operating procedure for Colonial Life!
