Our move with Colonial Van Lines (CVL) was the worst we've ever had. Compared to 17 moves while in the Navy, the incompetence in this move was breathtaking. We moved from New Mexico to Alabama in June, needing storage for our stuff for a couple of months.Job #55436641-CO-R2 The lowlights: Grossly underestimated the cost of the move. It cost thousands more than they estimated. You find this out at the end, prior to them okaying delivery. Brokered a mover that was completely unprepared to pack and load a 4,000 sq ft house in two days. A dad and his son showed up to do the work. Took a day and a half longer than they said it would, finishing at 3 am on a Sunday morning. Overall quality of packing was poor, based on damage when delivered. I was promised climate-controlled storage and didn't get it. When the driver got to Alabama, there was no reservation for my stuff. He hunted down another storage place. CVL told me it was climate-controlled. They lied. Computer was broken, mattresses mildewed, carpets folded, not rolled, and artwork damaged from heat and humidity. They overcharged me for the storage. Numerous phone calls and emails resulted in no repayment. I finally got the BBB involved and got paid the overcharge three weeks later. There is much more, but you have the general idea. Check the BBB.org website for a fuller appreciation of the issues with this company. CVL charged over $2,250.00 for brokering the move. I asked for some money back based on the very poor quality of service. They offered me $150.00 and a document signing away my rights to complain, write adverse reviews, or file any action. I passed on the offer. A complete rip-off based on the quality of service provided. Anybody but CVL.

Colonial Van Lines Review - Update

#2Author of original report

Mon, November 28, 2016

This is an update to my previous review of Colonial Van Lines (CVL) Relocation Division from 3 November 2016. Since I posted that review, within 12 hours CVL contacted me to learn more about my move and its problems and to try to work towards a resolution of the problems. I'm happy to say that we have agreed on a fair resolution of the issues and that it happened pretty quickly. Their Escalation Manager took my case to upper management and we rapidly resolved all of my complaints. I'm impressed by how quickly they responded and we got it done. They say they are working hard to improve their company's performance and responsiveness and it seems that they are. Scott, Huntsville AL
