Conseco Life Trans Union Survey Trans Union Survey Secret Shopper Scam San Francisco, California
I received a check in the amount of $2812.00 with an accompanying letter informing me that I was going to be a secret shopper. I would receive a payment, and send money western union to a person they tell me.
I called the number listed on the letter and spoke to the individual that signed the letter. I had many questions. He told me everything that I wanted to hear. In other words, I would never pay any money out of my pocket. I was to report back about customer services for various locations that they choose me to supposedly review. I was told to deposit the check into my bank account and call the individual the next day letting him know that I deposited the check and he would give me further instructions.
I did not have a bank account, so I went to a local bank and opened an account with the check I received. My bank manager told me that since it was a new account there would be a 10 day hold on the check and I agreed. I had a sleepless night, so I went on the internet and punched in the name on the check. I could not believe that it was a scam.
I am grateful to all who unfortunately was scammed by these people, but thanks to you all, I was able to call my bank and have my account cancelled. My bank also has flagged this name in case another check came through to their bank. They are returning the check to the company listed.
The next time something looks to good to be true, follow your gut and do not fall for these scams.
