I requested their "free information" and entered their "sweepstakes". What the company does NOT tell you is that once they have your number. They will NOT stop calling you to "set up an appointment for their representative to come out, free of charge, and show you their bed and how it works".

I've told them repeatedly I do not want an appointment. I cannot afford to buy a bed. I told them I was not interested. I told them not to call. Yet, they call 3 or 4 times a week still...every week. They simply will NOT stop calling. Beware!! Do not request information, nor "enter" their sweepstakes. They just will not leave you alone after that. This is a true problem for us, because my husband works 3rd shift and sleeps during the day. He's constantly being woken up by their calls.

Craftmatic Adjustable Beds

I received a sweepstakes "entry" opportunity from CONTOUR adjustable beds, perhaps this is what someone earlier was referring to. There were 6 tickets I was to initial, that supposedly would be 6 chances for me to win a free bed. I was about to respond to the employee who posted in November that I had a Craftmatic sweepstakes envelope in my hand, but when I went to get a picture discovered it was a different company, and thought it might be prudent to share this info here. I get a lot of these "sweepstakes" things in the mail, and I am very grateful to RipOff Reports for the information they provide to me. I just want to add, that if anyone else receives a "Win a Free Adjustable Bed" sweepstakes in the mail, please note that they are requiring your phone number to enter, and if you send it in, there is every chance that you will be hounded with phone calls and high pressure sales.  Again, just thought I'd mention that it was a different company that sent out the "sweepstakes", a company called CONTOUR, NOT Craftmatic. And the person that did mention he/she received an entry from Craftmatic may have received what I did.  I guess because of Craftmatic's extensive advertising, every time I see anything about an adjustable bed, I assume it is Craftmatic, and that's a GOOD thing for them, actually - it is just proof that their advertising is working.  Joyce Johnston is the signature on my Contour introduction letter inviting me to enter the contest, just an FYI.

the complaint is not accurate at all

I have to state that the information being provided by this person is not accurate.  Craftmatic does not have any sweepstakes at all.  They merely advertise through various web advertising companies.  Those companies may or may not run sweepstakes in order to have people visit their sites and have consumers fill out forms requesting information from various companies one of which is Craftmatic.  This is one way in which we receive our leads and those are the people we call.  We only call people whom have requested information from us.  As for sending out people to the home, this is a practice which has been discontinued for several years now.  Craftmatic only sells over the phone or via the internet.  They have no retail stores, no locations you can visit.  We have a call center in south Florida which I work sales in.  Anyone who requests to be put on the do not call list has that done.  If someone does not answer or says now is not a good time or anything else other than please take me off our call list they will stay in the system and continue to be called.  There is no high pressure sales as it is only a phone call and the customer is free to hang up or say not interested at any time which also takes them out of the system.  Any of the companies that you fill in the information for will solicit the individual whom filled out the forms.  That is the way it works.  If you dont want to be solicited at all then dont fill out any forms as such on the internet.  How do you think those companies that have giveaways make money. The consumer fills out forms/leads, the leads are paid for by the companies for which they are filled out and by the sales of these leads the company that has the giveaways makes the money to have the giveaway.  No one is going to give you a gift certificate, laptop, or other certificate just out of the goodness of their hearts.  They have their business.  Craftmatic has theirs, if you dont want to be solicited, dont request information from any company online be it Craftmatic or other.

Solution to Telemarkets who will not stop calling

#4Consumer Suggestion

Thu, June 07, 2007

Get on the DO NOT CALL list. If they continue to call you (after 31 days) P L E A S E REPORT Craftmatic to the FTC. Complaing does nothing to stop these people. Consumers who have placed their telephone numbers on the Registry may file a Do Not Call complaint with the FTC by calling 1-888-382-1222 or visiting www.donotcall.gov. They must provide the date of the call and the phone number or name of the company that called. Consumers may call that same number or visit that same Web site to add a telephone number to the Registry. Anyone who violates the Rule is subject to civil penalties of up to $11,000 per violation. In addition, violators may be subject to nationwide injunctions that prohibit certain conduct, and may be required to pay redress to injured consumers. Know your do-not-call rights. Put your number on the national do-not-call registry to stop most telemarketing calls. Call 888-382-1222, TTY 866-290-4326 or go to www.donotcall.gov. You can also tell companies not to call you again on a case-by-case basis. Report violations of your do-not-call rights through the do-not-call number or Web site. Report telemarketing fraud to the NFIC at 800-876-7060, www.fraud.org. The National Do Not Call Registry gives you a choice about whether to receive telemarketing calls at home. Most telemarketers should not call your number once it has been on the registry for 31 days. If they do, you can file a complaint at this Website. You can register your home or mobile phone for free. Your registration will be effective for five years. Pursuant to its authority under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), the FCC estab-lished, together with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), a national Do-Not-Call Registry. The registry is nationwide in scope, applies to all telemarketers (with the exception of certain non-profit organizations), and covers both interstate and intrastate telemarketing calls. Commercial telemarketers are not allowed to call you if your number is on the registry, subject to certain ex-ceptions. As a result, consumers can, if they choose, reduce the number of unwanted phone calls to their homes. The FTC works for the consumer to prevent fraudulent, deceptive, and unfair business practices in the marketplace and to provide information to help consumers spot, stop, and avoid them. To file a complaint in English or Spanish (bilingual counselors are available to take complaints), or to get free information on any of 150 consumer topics, call toll-free, 1-877-FTC-HELP (1-877-382-4357), or use the complaint form at http://www.ftc.gov. The FTC enters Inter-net, telemarketing, identity theft, and other fraud-related complaints into Consumer Sentinel, a secure, online data-base available to hundreds of civil and criminal law enforcement agencies in the U.S. and abroad.

Next time they call, tell them to set up an appointment to come out. But don't give them your address, give them the address of a grocery store, fire department or something like that. When they call back to say they couldn't find it give them a different address. Pretty soon they will realize that it is costing them too much money and they will quit calling. Believe me it works. If they already have your address, tell them to come out at a time whem you know you won't be there. They will get tired of waiting and give up. Good luck!
