"making the best of a bad situation." So, making a special day for the daughter to receive her laptop AFTER xmas makes me an idiot? Life isn't fair and sometimes the best intentions go awry. How we deal with those bad situations is a reflection of ourselves and influences the children around us. The daughter is NOT going to get the laptop for xmas - it just isn't going to happen. So, I think the next best thing is to make a special day for giving her the LATE xmas present. I did this exact scenario 3 years ago when a gift I ordered for my nephew arrived in time, but was damaged. I gave him a custom made card that said the card could be redeemed for the Playstation he wanted. He didn't know that he was going to get a playstation. My sister left her tree up and when the replacement playstation arrived about 2 weeks after xmas we had another mini-xmas just for him. Was he disappointed on xmas? You bet he was, but he took it in stride. When he opened the card, he asked where the playstation was. I explained to him what happened and that a replacement was coming. When it arrived, we arranged for everyone who came over for xmas dinner to come over for dinner again, just to present him with the playstation. He had a cheerful "captive" audience as he unwrapped it and connected to the TV and tried it out.

Why? Because you are trying to get YOUR money back, not the bank's money, and there are NO laws stipulating what the issuer of the debit card must do to help you. I only use credit cards. My #1 card pays 1% of my purchases directly back into my account at the CC bank (a credit union). I have had only two problems in many, many years, and both of those two times I filed a dispute with the CC bank and both problems were corrected in less than a week. Meanwhile, I could make other arrangements as I saw fit, because either the statement closing date would be two weeks or more away or the contested charge would simply be held in abeyance until next month's statement. So loose the debit card and use a CC.

It's unfortunate this occured, but life is full of disappointments and this is a good learning opportunity (although unhappy) for you child. If you have a fake xmas tree, I would keep it up. (if it's real and start dropping leaves, maybe you can find a leftover for sale very cheap) When you do purchase the laptop for your child have a SECOND xmas in your home. Make a big deal out of it, fancy dinner, all family members present, get the camera or video camera going for the present unwrapping and such. Basically the same "memory making" as for the real xmas. It won't be the same BUT, it'll smooth things over for your child. You're daughter will get her laptop as you wished, and she'll learn a valuable lesson about how "the best laid plans of mice and men..." don't always work out. She'll still feel special because of all the extra preparations for a second xmas in the home and more importantly, she'll learn how to deal with life's disappointments via your positive example. The problem most kids seem to have today is that they don't seem to learn how to deal with dissappointments. This is a great opportunity to teach her a lesson that will make her feel special and help her throughout her life.

Kelshir Marshall, Texas U.S.A. Just so you know.... It might not be Dells fault entirely. There are times when I used to work there that shipments from other manufactures (Intel) were delayed and shut down an entire line. (( So beCause Dell uses companies that are incompentent ... Me the CONSUMER should be at fault for trusting when I make an order that the confines of that agreement be met. If Dell knows this is a possibility then they should not LIE to the consumer and tell them that they will be delivering an order that can not be fulfilled and should then out of respect and honoring the CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT MOTTO...that they may not be able to deliver in the time constrainst THEY DELL set... I did not make those dates up... Dell promised to deliver and failed to do so... and STILL SATURDAY DEC 22nd has YET TO RETURN OUR MONEY! Also, when ordering a Dell (who builds AFTER being ordered, they do not prebuild) allow more time to arrive, you really did not give them that much time, especially considering the holidays. ((Yet AGAIN... DELL should as a MAJOR CORPORATION be more responsible to the consumer and INFORM THEM(ME) that there is a possiblity that this order will not be fulfilled... IF I had known that I would not of ordered a personalized model I would have went to a location and purchased it out right.... OH BUT AGAIN ...IT IS MY FAULT... Dell is not in the wrong Mr. Kelshir... why because you are an EX_employee and say so...hum... "ROLLS EYES"! Oh, and be more worried about your 15 year old daughter expecting a gift from 'santa' *rolls eyes* (( and this sarcastic remark is disrespectful and UNcalled for. I did not put this on RIP OFF REPORT to be personally remarked insulted. I did so ...so that others could see what has happened to me... and has far as my beautiful...intelligent...remarkable... Daughter... She is quite aware that Her father and I are "santa" you stupid jerk... but we have 2 infant children that THEY ARE NOT AWARE OF IT and they are the ones who we still pretend and believe in the magic of christmas. IN no way does the "rolls of your eyes" suggest anything other than, to me or those who read this, that you are a disrepectful EX-DELL EMPLOYEE! As for our duaghter we have explained the situation to her and she understands and is compassionate enough to not be too upset! )) SO MERRY CHRISTMAS MR. KELSHIR... I PRAY GOD WATCHES OVER YOU AND YOU KNOW PERSONALLY JESUS IS THE REASON FOR THIS GLORIOUS SEASON!!! NOT DELL NOR REMARKS BY THE LIKES OF YOU WILL DETER OUR CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION OF THE BIRTH OF OUR LORD AND THE MAGIC OF CHRISTMAS CHRISTINA and CHRIS GRACE)) Now in response to Edward Vine Grove, Kentucky U.S.A. It might not be Dell holding the money up... It might be your bank that is delaying the posting of credit. It most likely is not Dell that is holding your money up. I work in the automotive aftermarket. When someone returns a part that was put on a charge card, we issue the credit the same day during regular business hours. We can show the customer the funds transfer codes. Sometimes the customer will not have the money back into their account for several days and maybe up to two weeks. The issue is with their own bank. For whatever reason, their bank will usually take several days or longer to post the money back into the customers account. This most likely is an issue with your bank not posting credit back into your account promptly. If they don't have the product to ship, that is one thing. Someone at dell customer service should be able to tract the refund to see if it has been issued back to your account (( Edward as I too work in a work place that at times as to refund monies to members... I am well aware of this possiblity. We have contacted our bank. Which we recieved a form to fax to Dell to expadite the return of the funds. We faxed the letter to a dell employee and she told us she would fill it out and fax back to the bank ASAP (thurs. 12-20) On Friday we called our bank and the fax had not been recieved so we then contacted this lady and she was out of the office until after the first of the year. So as of today Saturday 12-22 the funds are still not present and we are still attempting to replace the gift... It is sad because we have 3 other children who will have everything they asked for thanks to the Grace of God and the blessings he has bestowed upon us this year. It is just unfortunate that our oldest will be left out in some ways... Thank You for your repsonse and MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY))
