Dollar Tree in Laplace, La. Well, I was hired in August of 2011, by the area DM let's call him Mr. F. As a Full Time Assistant Store Manager for the Laplace, La. location. After many times of approaching the SM (JEREMY) about a sign in the front window that stated ASM's & SM's needed, apply within. But, the SM would not take anytime to speak to me about the openings and would state to contact the DM for that information. Even though I had talked with the ASM many times and she told me that they were short 2 ASM's at the time. He just was to rude to offer any insite for the position.

Well, I finaly took it on my own and called another local store to get in contact with the DM. Whom hired me directly because of my background. I was told to report to Laplace, La. store #2888 to begin work on August 20th. by the DM. Well, I arrived at my scheduled time to meet with the store manager whom then told me he had not been informed about my hire. And I would have to wait until he could resolve it. I spoke to the DM again and he assured me that I was to start then but just let the SM put me on the next schedule which started on Auguast 24th.

So, my first day as the new ASM /Full Time Freight Manager. WOW what a beginning! The SM told me to come to the back and help unload the truck, now I am a very physical person having worked offshore for 11 years. So, unloading a truck for me is nothing but exercise. After unloading the truck with the stock crew, and other ASM's. While the SM stood there looking useless! He told me to start putting the freight out on the shevles. So, I did what I was told and started placing everything on the shelves where it was located in the store. But, while I was packing the shelves I was also organizing the products as I went along. He the SM comes over and YELL's at me about taking to much time to load the shelves, said not to organize the shelves, just pack them.

This was my first day as a ASM for Dollar Tree. Now, remember I spent 11 years offshore on hard labor type work and can pick up and move 300+ pounds with no problem. And here this 10 year lounger than me fellow is that looks as though he should have been born a female(my opinion). Yelling at me! I needed my job with a family at home so I just blew it off and did as I was told. It took a few weeks for the ASM's to teach me about the running procedures of the store as the SM never had any time to train me, as he was too busy sitting in the office, or arriving to work 1-2 hours late and not showing up for his scheduled times.

Then would walk in an hour late to work and tell me he was going in the office to take his lunch break. When I had been there 6 hours without a break. I reported this to the DM and you know what nothing was ever done about it. Well, I found out the DM and the SM used to be drinking buddies. This explains why the SM can show up late smelling as though he was still drinking from the night before and nothing was ever done about it.

While over time against company policies, where Dollar Tree states that there must be stock crew schedulded while trucks are being off loaded. The SM would place me on the schedule to unload the frozen food trucks every Friday with NO STOCKERS. Just me and 1 cashier whom could not leave the front end unattended. So, I was every Friday unloading the truck alone while trying to run the store and change out cashiers whom schedules changed at 12-12.30pm, which meant setting up register draws(which has to be done in front of the cashier. This operation cannot be done by any SM or ASM without a witness present.

Keep in mind that all of the frozen food trucks arrive at store#2888 at between 12-1 pm. The SM would always schedule himself at 1pm to replace me. And he would go sit in the office until I was completed unloading the truck and then get angry for not taking my breaks when I was supposed to. Where he stated I was not to take a break unless another Manager was on the clock.

Well, 1 Friday in May, while unloading the truck alone while the SM sat in the office I slipped and fell in the storage freezer. I injured my groin and left knee, after a few minutes I caught my breath and hobbled to the office where he the SM sat eating McDonald's. I informed him of what happened and he told me to go finish putting the truck away. Then I could take my luch break since I had been there for 5 1/2 hours at that point and he had only been there for 30 minutes. I asked him if I was supossed to fill out an acident report and he told me he did not know. So, I asked what about me getting checked by a doctor? He stated go finish the truck and he would find out. I WAS INJURED!!! I needed to see a doctor because it hurt to stand up straight. So, I went and put the truck away in massive pain and made it back to the office. I asked if I could fill out an acident report again so I could go to the hospital and he handed me a customer acident report and stated that would be good enough.

TWO weeks went by of me going to work hurting everyday. Before I got feed up with it and left and went to the doctor, I charged it to the workers comp department of Dollar Tree. Within minutes Dollar Tree called the doctors office and denied me for medical treatment as it was never reported to Dollar Tree's Corp. Office by JEMERY(SM). After the doctors office got it all straigthened out with Dollar Tree they found that I had serious injuries to my left knee. I was made to wear a brace and have an MRI done to see how bad the damage was. 2 YES TWO MONTHS LATER after fighting with Dollar Tree Corp. I finaly got an MRI.

Things went down hill from there, WOW I was made to sit on a wooden barstool for 6-8 hours running a register. Now, I do not know about everyone else but this causes serious pain to ones lower back from the position you must sit in for that length of time. I had gotten to the point where I was taking 2 to 3 times the regular dose of Extra Strength Tylenol just to be able to go to work. I reported this many times to the SM, DM, and Human Resorces Manager. They all kept telling me they was within their rights. And my only alternative was to quit!. So I did in June 2011.

Now, I have a lawyer and am suing Dollar Tree.

I know that this is not the first time Dollar Tree Corp. has allowed something like this and I know it will not be the last. WHY DOES THE GOVERNMENT NOT STEP IN AND MAKE COMPANIES PAY FOR THEIR WRONGS TO PEOPLE?

This is how Dollar Tree Rip's off their employe's ! And offering them nothing for the months they are forced to be out of work for on the job injuries.
