After going through a heart-breaking experience with a 'christian' on a so-called christian dating site, I setup an appointment with Equally Yoked. I heard about them on The Fish radio station as being a saft, faith-based private christian dating site. What a joke!! They have turned out to be the worst scammers of all.
I went to the appointment after work. I was asked to watch a video, then lead into an office with a man interviewer. After explaining what I had gone through with my previous experience, he asked me some questions regarding my faith, my attitude toward dating, and then especially my financial situation..which should have been a warning to me right then. He kept asking me if there was anything that would keep me from using Eequally Yoked..I kept saying it depended on what they charged. Finally he gave an outrageous amount. Shocked, I said No Way!! Then he came back with half that amount and asked if I felt that was reasonable. I again told him I couldn't afford that. Well, he said he could do installments - what did I feel I could pay monthly. In no way did he disclose he was going to have this financed.
Shame on me for trusting a 'christian-based' business and not taking the time to read the contract before signing it. I was upset at the pressure he used - that I needed to sign it right then without going home to sleep on it. I was tired from work and the late appointment so I signed it. At No Time Was It Ever Disclosed That There Was No Refund.
An appointment was made for the video a couple of weeks later but I called to cancel it a week before telling 'Betty' I just wasn't ready to get back into dating. She made no reference to me at all about there being no refund or cancellation.
So just a couple of days again, I get a call while out walking on my lunch hour from 'Kelly'. I couldn't hear her very well but tried to explain I was done with dating sites. She said 'sweetie, you don't understand..then I get this email at work today
You signed a legal contact on August 20th and set up payments through a finance company to start making payments on September 18th, for $200 per month. The contract is a legal binding contract which you initialed and signed both documents stating there are no cancellation and you agree to pay the total amount on the contract regardless of usage, change in marital status, residence, or employment. Cancellations are not an option!!! Equally Yoked does not guarantee result or grant refunds for any reason, and the member agrees to all terms and conditions and acknowledges that she understands all aspect of this agreement.
I have tried to talk to you about this a few times on the phone as well as Saturday the 26th in which you told me to call then with no response. I am willing to work with you and we even told you before that we would give you some extra months for the delay of you coming in and getting your profile, video and pictures done but again no response. Please call me as soon as you can to make arrangements and I will be happy to work with you or my hands are tied and I will have to take the unpleasant step of turning this over to our collection agency/Atty.
I have attached the contracts which you where given a copy of in case you have misplaced them. I strongly advise you read them.

Hello Karen,
We are sorry that you feel this way about our company. We have been in business for 30 years now and have millions of happy members. We would truly not still be here if we were not successful in what we do. We have everyone come in to meet us before joining because we have to get to know you first before we offer you any type of program. There is no way that we can force anyone to sign something that they do not want to. You were more than free to walk out of our doors at any time of the initial interview but YOU chose not to. There had to be something appealing for you to want to join. You even made the “video” appointment without any hesitation the day of your interview.
At the time of you canceling your initial video appointment on Thursday September 5th you instructed us to call you back in the 1st week of November to re-schedule. Why would you want us to call you back to re-schedule if you were not planning to use this service at all? Also, the reason why Ms. Betty did not make a reference to you that there were no cancellations is because it is written in big bold black letters on your contract. Us having no cancellations shouldn’t have been a surprise to you because we are not trying to keep it a secret.
About Ms. Kelly’s e-mail, the reason why she was trying to contact you is because we always try to work with everyone’s situation. We understand that things can get tough at times and, in time of need, we are here to help accommodate your payments. She reached you on your cell on October 24th and YOU told her to call you back that Saturday the 26th. She tried calling you as you had agreed and left a voicemail as you were unavailable to pick up your phone. Again, if you were already planning to cancel, why would you want us to contact you again instead of just letting Ms. Kelly know of your intentions when she first spoke with you on the 24th?
Unfortunately we are not a “non profit” organization, and we have the right to operate as others companies do. If you sign a contract with your phone company that binds you to it there is no argument is canceling because you signed a contract. It’s as clear as that. Just because we are 100% Christian organization does not mean that we cannot be as professional as other companies are. What we are having a real tough time understanding is how you can judge, not only us but our company, when you have never even tried the service? You have denied yourself the privilege to be a part of the oldest and largest real Christian single’s organization in the nation.
We wish you nothing but the best and encourage you to contact our office and try out the service before making any judgment.
"Do not grumble against one another, brothers, so that you may not be judged; behold, the Judge is standing at the door." James 5:9
