The usual scenario: Couple of young students, a male and female, make their presentation about winning points for a trip to where ever.
The points can only be won if they sell so many magazines subscriptions. Now the new version of this scourge is interesting. The magazines one subscribes to are NOT for personal use. Rather, they are ostensibly sent to our fighting warriors currently in Iraq and Afghanistan. By golly what sort of person would refuse to help our troops out? other than the lunatic fringe of the anti-US anti-war
movement?
So I duly did my duty but remained highly suspicious of this enterprising couple and soon after they left, I went on the internet and Google and lo and behold there is the this very company clearly listed as a ripoff scam boiler room.
I immediately placed a stop order on the check.

Although my "Stop Payment Request" was duly executed by my bank, this action in no way deterred the ripoff artists from deftly forging different checks numbers bearing amount different from the original I wrote. Bank and I are in the process presently of proceeding with legal action for forgery.

I support the troops but I am against the war. That does not make me part of the lunatic fringe. What it makes me is an American. "Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel". I am a vet and I love my country, do not assume to know me.

That you responded to a request to provide our military members with SOMETHING that might provide a moment of escape or enjoyment - yeah, that'd be hard to pass up. Not sure if this will make it into Rip Off Reports or not, but there IS an organization that from what I know of it is devoted to letting "the rest of us" help in providing just about anything and everything to our military members that the services don't provide, or just not enough of, or not as high quality as we might appreciate, in their shoes. It's called AnySoldier.com There is also, for sure, AnyMarine.com, Some of the things I know have been sent, and this is small knowledge, but like razors and shaving cream, for example. Yeah, that'd be a luxury TO ME.
