Family Credit Counseling Ripoff Dishonest Fradulent, stole my money, ruined my credit Lauderdale Lakes, Florida
I entered the program because the credit cards I had had all charged the annual fee at the same time which I could not pay at once. A few months passed and the balances got larger with the over limit fees, etc and I was afraid that I couldn't get out of it. I was given false promises by Family Credit Counseling.
I was told that by getting into the service, the interest rates would be reduced and I would no longer have any overlimit/past due fees. I have been in the program for approx. 3 years and I am almost paid off. However, during the past 3 years I have incurred over $2000 in late fees because Family Credit Counseling has not followed through on their promise. Also, it's a good thing I would check the statements they sent me because they were overcharging me for their "contribution". They took $200 of my money.
After fighting with them for several weeks, they did send me a check. My payments were always late to my creditors which has caused my credit score to drop 100 points in a year. Yes, 100 points.
I called them again today to find out why my payment sent the end of September didn't reach my creditors until the end of October. They blamed it on the creditors, that it takes 10-15 days for them to post to the account. I would have been better off just plugging away at my credit cards. They would have been paid off probably 2 years ago. I only owed $4000 total and in calculating all the late fees, etc I have paid back about $6000, if not more.
Do not use them!!! You will regret it!
