While I respect the right of people to file whatever they feel is appropriate on
RipOffAlert, I feel that this is a particularly unfair posting that does not
reflect our service accurately. Like all e-commerce providers, we must always
be on alert for those who attempt to use our services for fraudulent purposes, or
who attempt to ripoff consumers.
Without revealing any private details of the client complaining in this
case, I will give some details to explain.
This client signed up to use our services to sell products. At some
point after launching those sales their web page no longer worked,
however they continued to get a few orders for the products. Turned out
all orders were by the same person, using different names but the same
email address, all from India.
We sent an email to the client asking for the URL to their site since
the one they provided was no longer working, and the client did not
respond. When we finally reached them and we raised concerns, they had
a customer's email supposedly stating they had received the products already and
that all was well, despite the fact that the most recent order would not
have had time to even arrive in India yet.
Because of the suspicious items above and a few others, we told this vendor we
needed to hold funds until the end of the month, and that we would no
longer be selling their products. If we don't hold funds, we payout funds for
transactions which are highly likely to result in refunds and chargebacks, which
means we'd likely lose money on the account, and it could be a significant amount.
To protect ourselves against financial loss from this type of fraud or deceptive
consumer practice, we hold funds until we are confident that we have a good sense
that there will not be significantly more product and transaction returns ahead, so our
potential loss is covered as much as possible.
We provide great service to legitimate companies that don't engage in fraudulent or
deceptive practices, examples of which are featured here:

Prospective vendors considering working with us are encouraged to speak directly with as many
of our 1,000+ clients as they'd like to. Our customer service has been impressing clients
since we began in 2005.
FastSpring would be a very poor choice for any individuals or firms who are hoping to
commit any type of fraud. The only vendors that need to worry about the type of problem
that the vendor described above in the complaint are those who are engaging in fraudulent
or clearly deceptive practices.
