I know these people are contacting me about defaulted student loans. I cannot pay them. I called Sallie Mae to negotiate payment, pointing out that I have no contract with anyone but them.

After several calls from GRC--whose employees were interested more in bully tactics than in conversation--I sent a letter via Certified Mail demanding no further telephone contact, and that any further communication be only in writing.

The letter was acknowledged, and the calls continued. I then contacted the Attorney General where I live. According to him, GRC denied all. The calls did stop, however--and I never did get the written communication I'd requested.

Now the calls are starting again. No message left; just air if I answer).

I AM willing see what we can negotiate. I've read from various sources that they have been successfully sued for ignoring requests to stop calling (and failure to follow up in writing); elsewhere I've read that suing them is futile.

If I were to sue them, it would not be for money; it would be to get them to comply with the law (although I could use the settlement to make them an offer..!).

Not sure what to do at this point. They ignore Certified Mail; they lie to the SAG.

At least the one person admits they "used" to work at the collection agency in question, I have a strong feeling that some of the other writers work there now.

Telling everyone how easy it is to work it out.

You know that is a total joke and these are high pressure collection agents that are in many cases trying to collect from people who were not even able to attend classes because of family emergency's etc. The fact is they are using illegal scare tactics, intimidation and bully scare tactics to back up a fraudulent school system that feeds off of uneducated people who want to improve there lives.

Many of the schools are not even accredited, and there diplomas are worthless, they are very misleading and can never get you a job. This is the clientele  they represent, pretty much scum bags, ruining peoples credit and lives with no regard except to line there own pockets. To represent this type of client tells the whole story, a disgusting thievery ring that pickpockets the tax payers, you make me and all the other good citizens of our nation want to regurgitate in in unison.

Rusty, If you could not make payment to GRC for you defaulted student loan balance, then how were you going to negotiate payment with the original, Sallie Mae? Did you read your promisory note explaining to you your rights and responsibilities as a borrower? You were given copies of them. From reading your complaint where you didnt even have enough dignity to hide the dollar signs in your eyes, I think not. It amazes me how many people 1) default on their student loans 2) dont realize that each and every defaulted loan affects the next person's ability to borrow to study and 3) when THEY default, they think it is everyone' fault but theirs. A contract was signed by you and the original lender. A Contract!! You broke contract. Sallie Mae as the original lender has every right to hire 3rd party collection agencies to recovery these monies with interest and fees (again, see YOUR promisory notes). Stop grasping for straws and make arrangements, voluntary arrangements with GRC. Call them (gasp!) take the initiative and 'man up'. This tells more of your fear of the situation, and that is understandable as these balances are large and daunting. My best advice to you: call them (GRC) and be honest about your situation. I promise you they will be of help. There is no such thing as a free lunch, son. And truthfully I think that you know that.

I have to say I've been pleased with them (for the most part, with just one issue which is being resolved currently). My payments are affordable. I would MUCH rather deal with them, then some of the other collection agencies that it defaulted to prior to them. I would honestly suggest that you do try to make some kind of payment schedule with them. I am relieved that I no longer have all this debt over my head. I can go back to school in a few months if I decide to. No company will be able to please everyone. I don't think that most of them even try. I have been pleased though with my experiences with GRC. The agency that had it a week before them told me I had two choices... 1. Pay in Full ($8000) 2. Deal with GRC the following week. I chose option 2! Good Luck...wish I had some more information I could give you.
