Purchasing a Wal-mart refillable debit card places the funds entirely in Greendot's control (Owned by Synovus Bank).  As I sit here waiting for my children to wake up to an empty refrigerator and no Easter Morning surprises, I look at the statement for my card, showing I have over $350 on a card I can't use because a refund has "Flagged" their security department and I have to prove the money really belongs to me.  It isn't enough to be able to confirm every action on the account they see and to be able to TELL them as proof, I must FAX copies of the receipts for both the purchase AND the refund for them to unlocking my card.

After they receive the fax, they will have one of their invisible faces check line by line until they have decided to release it.  If your are unable or unwilling to produce those documents to THEIR satisfaction, they simply sit on the money as "abandoned" and declare you are being uncooperative!  In theory, the money would eventually go back to the state where you registered it, but I've no reason to believe Greendot/Synobus doesn't just "keep" it.

One only even gets this far after numerous 90-minutes wait times on the "customer service" line.   Even though they are located in CA, they use a call center for problems in an EST time zone so trying to catch someone there on Good Friday was impossible.  I listened to the "high volume" message for another 90-minutes before having to give in and prepare my family for this weekend.

They aren't afraid of being sued because the Cardholder agreement forces you to BINDING ARBITRATION - IN California! Your card can be locked and they will STILL take money on it, so not only will they keep the money already there, they will accept incoming funds too.
Wal-mart sells you the "re-loadable VISA/MC" so they (WM) money not only on the card, but each time you fill it there.  Also note there have been changes made on the MoneyPak refill too!  If you buy a MoneyPak refill, sometimes the PIN is on the card - but sometimes it only comes on the receipt!  Lose your receipt, lose your money!
I realize I'm a small fish in a large ocean but if they do this to me, how many others don't take the time to complain or have the receipts or whatever their magic owls demand?

I'll eventually get my money - but not until after the last Easter my children will be able to spend with they're mother.  She very likely won't be here for the next one and dealing with this might just be what finishes her.

Apparently you cant read. I was a VICTIM TOO...read on down the list of Greendot complaints. I am TGoines. 19 yr old THAT HAD MY TAX REFUND FROZEN ALSO! I sent letters to Better Business Burea and posted on here and I emailed Walmart corporate office.

The # I posted is NOT the one on your card you dumba$$. aND IF YOU USED THE EMAIL ADDRESS i GAVE YOU PERHAPS YOU WOULD GET A RESPONSE. I wouldn't deal with you either.  You are right, none of this should have happened to you or me or anybody. But not using every outlet people offer is YOUR LOSS!

Start with the email address I gave you, allow them the 2 hrs to email you back and confirm your number to call you. Like you, I got the run around for a week. I had to post on here and everywhere else to get an employees attention that was nice enough to give me the email address and direct number to the RESOLUTION DEPT INSTEAD OF THE CALL CENTER THAT TAKES THE COMPLAINTS.

You only lost a few hundred dollars, I LOST THOUSANDS AND WENT INTO LABOR AND GAVE BIRTH THE SAME DAY! You get no more sympathy from me.

Thanks for nothing - and you are NO advocate of mine!

In case you weren't paying attention, I ALREADY HAD THE NUMBER AND THE EM.AIL!!  What should NOT have happened was that a return should lock up the card to begin with and a situation created that could NOT have been handled over the phone!  That would have been "customer advocacy" - you obviously work for them so your response does not help me a bit.  It only further shows that the only thing advocated is the company themselves.  As usual you blame the customer for YOUR actions and create an extremely difficult situation placing the onus on the customer.

I could call them all I wanted, talk to supervisors all I wanted, discuss charges, policies, and procedures all I wanted - what I couldn't have that I wanted was my MONEY!  Hiding behind policies and procedures does NOT make you an advocate even though your email says you are.  Being able to resolve my problem by NOT creating one to begin with would have been the right thing to do.  Releasing my money would have been the right thing to do and greendot did neither.

My warning still stands - do NOT use any VISA or MC that is filled by greendot because it is considered the CUSTOMERS' fault if a refund is given on that card - as though you generally have a choice with retailers.  ONLY use that card to make a purchase such as for food or other consumables that you will NEVER return and hope to goodness no fraud is ever committed on it or the policies and procedures greendot is so proud of will still apply because NOTHING CHANGED on their end!  They will tell you as they told me, this card is ONLY for pulling cash off of it and using it for that medium NOT as a Debit card.

The problem still exists and greendot is still responsible for stealing Easter from my children.

This happened to me a few weeks ago, if you had read down further you would have seen I posted the emailand a DIRECT NUMBER TO THE RESOLUTION DEPT. i hope you will use it and that it helps you too.

Please email them first and allow them to contact you. One of their employees saw my post and gave me this info. Once someone called me back which surprisingly was in less than 2hrs, I was even given permission to post this number for anyone else having similar problems. Good luck. I know it sucks, I went into pre-mature labor on account of the stress, only 3weeks luckily. Please post your update if this helps. I still wont use them ever again myself.
