Almost all fast food outlets have video monitoring inside at the drive thru cash register. This catches problems with people driving off without paying, robberies and shortchanging (or plain cash register theft). What happened to you was 'theft by deception' and is a crime in all states. You should have confronted the manager immediately. He/she could have reviewed the tape quickly and solved the problem. I suspect the manager was not on site when this occurred or may have been involved directly.

Adolph, thank you for this in site. I had no idea that the Jack In The Box chains were in so much hot water. This is one of my children's top choices for fast food. Since we don't eat out much, they might not notice if we never go to any Jack In The Box again! I have already decided not to return to this store, but you've enlightened me to a grievous problem with all the chains. Just wondering has anyone narrowed this outbreak down to a distributor or has it been confined to the Jack In The Boxes themselves? I know many different fast food restaurants sometimes utilize the same food distribution wholesalers. By the way, if you don't mind, I'd like to forward this information on to all my friends so that they are aware as well. ~ Emt724

NEWS ITEMS (on the internet): [1] Jack in the Box Settles Food Poisoning Lawsuit For $7.5 Million SAN DIEGO (AP) - A woman who suffered kidney failure after eating a bad Jack in the Box hamburger reached a $7.5 million settlement with the chain's parent company. Angela Noble, 19, of Idaho, underwent a kidney transplant to save her life after eating a hamburger contaminated by the E. coli bacteria nearly four years ago. She settled her lawsuit with San Diego-based Foodmaker Inc. on Wednesday. "It has always been Foodmaker's intent to provide fair settlements to victims deserving compensation as a result of the outbreak,'' said Bruce Clark, an lawyer for the company. Foodmaker has settled more than 90 lawsuits related to the January 1993 outbreak that sickened several hundred people and killed three children from Washington state. Settlements that have been disclosed range from $19,000 to $15.6 million. Foodmaker has not released the amounts of all its settlements. Since the outbreak, Jack in the Box has begun safeguards to make sure its food is bacteria-free. . [2] Analysis Case Study: Jack in the Box E. coli crisis On January 15, 1993, the Washington State Health Department alerted Robert Nugent, president of Jack in the Box, that the E. coli outbreak they had been informed of two days earlier, was at least partly attributed to hamburgers purchased at Jack in the Box restaurants (Sellnow and Ulmer, 1995). "Within a month, three children in the Seattle area, all under three, died of E. coli 0157:H7 poisoning - the strain linked to Jack in the Box" (p. 138). One child had eaten at Jack in the Box, it was thought another was infected by a child who became ill after eating at Jack in the Box, and a cause for the third child's infection was unknown. In total, 400 people were infected with the bacteria in Washington State, Idaho and Nevada. "As a result of this crisis, the Jack in the Box fast-food chain was not only in danger of losing sales, the company's very existence was threatened by the crisis as well" .........I think I'll pass on their E Coli Bergers ! Dead children? How tragic! Don't give 'em to your pet, even.

1. Again, I thought he might have needed to make change, or get smaller bills. 2. Once again, as I stated when I asked to speak with a manager the man told me he was the only manager. 3. Yes, I did go to the police station, which might I add is just around the corner, and yes I did wait for roughly 3 1/2 hours, all total. *Let me explain here it is very easy for him to copy down my license plate number and call in to the police, to file a trespassing warrant against me. If I am where it happened then I can defend myself to the officer and have my side heard, as well as what little proof I had. *The biggest reason I waited so long he assulted my son (Battery is the physical laying of hands on another human, assult is the verbal form)! *Asside from that, 5.00 is one gallon of gas and to a mom who lives on a tight budget (when we only eat out twice a month because of gas prices and the economy) thats not a drop in the bucket, its a splash.

Why did you not go INSIDE the restaurant to speak with the manager? It is unreasonable to expect to do so from a drive-through window, at which many other people are expecting to receive prompt service. Also I find it hard to believe you drove to the police station and waited 1 1/2 hours to speak with an officer ... all over $5.61. Surely with children in tow, none of this drama was worth such an insignificant amount of change. Your story is very hard to believe.
