My husband and I are both currently enrolled at James Madison High School, in the online program. My husband has been enrolled for about 2 months and I have been enrolled for almost a year. Ever since my first date of enrollment I have had nothing but issues with this program. My first problem was with the down payment. I was told from the lady that enrolled me, that it would be taken out of my savings account, which is the number I gave them. When my down payment was taken out of my checking account, instead of my savings, I was overdrafted by my bank (had the money but it was in the wrong account), and I had to call and experienced my first runaround with this "school". They say they can't take out of savings, only checking. So we handled that problem and moved on. It took them almost 3 months to review my transcripts and get me started on my "classes". There was the second problem.
Then came the next problem, my husband was laid off of work and I couldn't pay my monthly tuition of only $40 a month, with my minimum wage 12 hour a week job paying our rent as well as the rest of our bills. I spoke to a different person, about twice a day, up to 4 times a week and kept telling them the same thing, I would pay my tuition as soon as I could, and each time they said that it would not be a problem and that they would stop calling me about this same issue. The phone calls continued, and I received a notice in the mail saying that if I did not make a payment of my past due tuition in the amount of $120 that they would send my account to collections and drop me from the program. This was only after 3 months, with me keeping in contact with them during this time. Eventually I paid it up and magically the phone calls stopped as well as the notices.
The next problem I had was a "referral credit". When you refer someone and they enroll in the program, you get a $50.00 credit either towards your tuition or in a check if your account is paid in full. I referred my husband to the program and got the $50.00 credit once he had been enrolled for 30 days. I checked my account status one day, and it was normal with the credit deducted from my tuition. The next day I logged on and was checking to see when my next payment would be due, and saw that they had credited my account the remaining tuition and then some. According to Ashworth, they owed me $12,000 + dollars. Obviously that was incorrect, so I called and braved through the hour wait time before you finally get another rude person on the phone and explained the situation to her. She said it was their mix up and they obviously didn't owe me that, which I knew, said she would call me back when she came in next. It took a whole month to get that one fixed.
I guess the final straw for me was when my husband went to Workone for career training, and they told him that this school was not recognized by their program or any others in our area for that matter, and that our diploma would not be accepted. They said they had never even heard of this program before and that we should just get our G.E.D.'s because this would not be accepted. So here I am one day researching this school a little more and find this website and more reports of problems with this school just like I have been having, it all seems fishy to me. So I registered for the G.E.D test and I'm not paying them another cent, what is the point if it is a fake diploma? Don't make the same mistake I did...research the school completely before enrolling in any online high school, but especially this one.
