In May of 2014,my husband & I opened up an auto insurance policy as well as a renters insurance policy w. John Sinner (a state farm broker). The goal of working with State Farm over Mercury was to get better & more reliable coverage as well as better customer service. The initial set up was simple & very friendly(promising). Our representative seemed to understand & meet all of our needs. The biggest of which was the need for coverage on our off road vehicles(a quad & dirt bike) that we park in our garage when not in use.We were assured that since they were not street bikes(only off road vehicles) that they would be covered under our renters policy and there was not a need to carry another auto policy for them.Keep in mind that we also had an auto policy for both of our vehicles with State Farm so adding an additional coverage would have been very simple.Over the course of our short relationship with John Sinner we expressed issue after issue with the coverage and customer service.Continual changes in rates that were not explained was the biggest issue. As a consumer,we don't know what we don't know so we would call to ask. Each time we would reach out to John's officer we would sit on hold for at minimum 30 minutes at a time & bounced around the office like a hot potato(never being able to speak with John himself). Those were the general issues..
On February 21, 2015 my husband and I were robbed.A young man stole our dirt bike right out from under our noses. It was a complete violation of our privacy and dignity.People are very shameful. But like good, responsible tenants and vehicle owners,I had a glimmer of hope as we had been paying into a renters policy with coverage on our garage contents(including our dirt bikes). So,we went ahead and filed a policy report with the LASD and immediately filed a claim with State Farm. The rep over the 800 # couldn't provide any coverage information but ensured us that our claim was stated and our Broker would contact us on Monday to hash out the details and steps in claims process.Of course John Sinner's office did not contact us.I called & again sat on hold for 40 minutes.I had to hang up and call back to even get someone on the phone. After complaining enough,I was finally able to speak with John Sinner directly.I explained the situation at hand & the specific circumstances of the policy that we purchased with his reps and additionally our disapproval of the poor customer service we were receiving from this office in a time of need.He told us he would personally look into all of our issues further and dig into the claims department regarding the theft. He explained at that time that off road vehicles aren't typically covered under a renters policy but since we were sold the policy by one of his reps under false pretenses, that I would likely need to file a formal statement with claims stating exactly how the policy was sold to us.My husband and I are were obviously furious that we were paying into what was sold to us as coverage for our machines (but really wasn't).At that point we had our hands tied and we relying on John Sinner to come up with a solution with the claims department.
John indicated that he would get back to me no later than Wednesday with some resolution to our unfortunate situation. As usual, he didn't do as he said he would. On Thursday, I did receive a call from him. After greetings, his first words were "you're not covered, and there's nothing to do about it".I was floored & disappointed. He said "you needed a separate auto policy to cover the bikes, we are not responsible for you decision to not carry the proper policy". (As I mentioned above, we have our auto policy with State Farm too... it would have been very simple to add the ATV's had we been advised to do so) After going round and round about the gross neglect & misrepresentation by his employees, we were getting nowhere.John's attitude and customer service in our trying time were horrific and getting worse by the minute. My request to John was at minimum to reimburse us for the renters coverage we were paying through our time with state farm as we were not getting the coverage we were promised. He said "no, I will not do that". He told us multiple times "there's nothing you can do".
John Sinner and his team at State Farm lie, cheat and steal from their clients. They also allow their employees to sign for their customers insurance policies.Wouldn't that in itself make the coverage invalid?

My husband and I are honest, loyal customers that pay our bills on time and work hard for what we have.We would expect and hope that our insurance broker and other carriers of service would be just as honest and loyal. We rarely have issues and no accidents.. but when push actually came to shove and we needed to bank on our insurance coverage we were denied, hands down, no questions asked!
