Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
My 5 year old daughter received a LiteArt (lightbright) toy for Christmas from a family friend who lives out of town. Since she had also simular item, we went to Kmart to get a store credit so she could get something else. It took us a few days to get the time to go, and my daughter was excited about shopping for something different.

The 'customer service rep' cut me off even before I was able to request the store credit, demanding the reciept. I explained that this was a gift, and we didn't have a reciept. I was told that my friend had been given a gift reciept, and that there were nothing she would do without it. When I called my friend, he said that they did not get a gift reciept. I guess Kmart knows a little more than the customer.

I can understand a store policy that does not give back cash back without a reciept, but this seems a little over the top to me.

My daughter was very disapointed, and I was pissed off.

We rarely shop at Kmart because of the rude people who work there, the fact that you usually cannot even find a price for items on their shelves, and when you do find a price, it rings up differently (always for more) than the sticker on the shelf.

The funny thing is that this item was under 10 bucks. I was planning to pick up a few other things, so they lost a little more than the cost of the exchange.

Tight security doesn't always work.

As an ex-employee of that particular Kmart I can tell you right now that any store can take as many security measures as they like, and people will still find a way to steal merchandise.

A perfect example happened while I was still an employee.  Someone broke into the old container they used to use for the iPods, stuffed them into a bed comforter and managed to get out of the store with them.  All the iPods were security tagged, they were locked in a secure case made of thick plexiglass with three small key locks.  The comforter was so thick, it rendered the security tags completely useless.

As someone else said.  It's a normal store policy at nearly every store to refuse returns with no receipt because the delinquents ruined it for the good, honest people.  If you don't like it, start saving your receipts or suck it up.

In response to the two comments i have read on here. These are most typical at any retail store. A customer don't his/her way they say " i"m going to wal-mart or kohl's or target. Same if they go to those retail places and don't get their way. We all wish for the days of old when you used to walk into a store or a business of any kind and the people were nice and the customers were nice. Today people want it their way or no way. All in a rush and expect someone to drop whatever they are doing to come help them because their in a hurry. I have worked retail for 15 years. I also have worked 5 1/2 years for a major gas station chain (speedway) It is all the same. A customer doesn't get what they want, they complain and when they still don't get it they yell scream and usually call you everything but your name. What people don't understand is this. We don't live in a perfect world. Have worked for k-mart for over 5 years i will give you information that you probably didn't know. K-mart was one of the last retail stores to change their return policy. K-mart decided after losing as in our store alone 3 million dollars in one year for return frauds that it was time to change and be more in tune with return policys like wal-mart and target. The policy was then changed to cut down on fraud and be able to give a good return policy for the customer. K-mart started offering gift reciepts because of this new policy. Signs were posted at registers about gift reciepts available and the new return policy was posted on a huge sign in customer service. To the comment about well my toy had a kmart sticker on it and they should of let me exchange it. With the new policy, you need a reciept plain and simple. Why? because as stated unfortunatly we don't live in a perfect world. And it stinks that all must be inconvienced because of a few bad apples but that is life. With everything. People walk into a store and take things off a shelf and walk right up to customer service and ask for a exchange of something else or want store credit. That's why it was no receipt no refund or exchanged. K-mart isn't the only store with this policy. K-mart stores had to close including the super K-mart i worked at here in ohio because of ceo embezzlement of money plain and simmple. Ceo's have changed alot in the last 5-7 years. The last for which the last set of stores was closed was because of this very reason. People speculate, assume and come up with their own stories but that's the truth. Truth be told, the ceo that is being persued by the government was a high postioned person at Wal-mart. Which he was let go and wal-mart filed for bankruptsy. The service that you get when you go to other retail stores are more then likely from an ex k-mart employee. K-mart employees go to wal-mart and vice versa. A job is a job it doesn't matter which you work for because its all the same. So to all i say this. Make your life easier and less stressfull. If you go to a retall store, expect to wait in line. If you don't have time to wait, don't go. All businesses are having a hard time right now and are having their workers do 2-3 persons jobs. Yes there are instances where employees of any retail store are rude and should be dealt with accordinally. Christmas is upon us right now. I just got home from shopping at k-mart and wal-mart. Standing in long lines for layaway, listening to people at both places saying i'm not ever coming here again! i had to wait to long or i need this now i'm in a hurry. Aren't we all? If your going to shop. Make time. If your going to get a gift for someone get a gift reciept and check to see what the return policy is. Just don't assume. The information is there. Would you just go buy a car without researching it first? There's a honest and calm solution to everything. Being loud or rude doesn't make someone want to help you more. If you have a problem with a person at a store talk to a manager. Be polite and you will get better results. Isn't what we teach our kids. Be kind to others and they will be to you? If your kind and thier not, then you talk to management. The comment on merchandise being better, well it all comes from the same wholesale company's. I think thats a usual point made when someone is angry. My rule of thumb is this. Would you like someone to talk to your children the way some of these people talk to retail people. Retail has changed dramatically in the last 20 years. It has jumped on the bandwagon of $$ is more important then anything. No matter what. It has joined the corp. america that we have accepted. Phone company's electric company's and so on. Expect more out or your workers with less workers being on site.

Michael - Douglasville, Georgia Excuse me, but it's not the consumer's fault either....... that people steal merchandise and try to return it for cash. Maybe you aren't doing your job correctly. Theft happens at all stores. It's Kmart's fault for not having the merchandise and security monitors that can stop a person from walking out of your store..........nooooo, you have to take it out on your customers and they have to pay because you have lousy security measures. By the way........ALL Kmarts closed down in my city a few months ago. ALL OF THEM!!! Glad yours is still open so you can continue to be rude to your customers. Probably won't be long until your store closes anyway. There was NO LOSS when KMART closed - we always have WALMART and their products are better quality and more affordable than KMART's EVER was. I can see why Kmart has lousy customer service With an attitude like yours...

I'm sorry to inform you that that is NOT the reason the company is in bankruptcy... and going out of business?

Oh my gosh.. Uh, last I checked our store was open to stay.. so lets please get our facts worked out. As far as returns without a ticket,, yes its true you won't get any sympathy whatsoever without a ticket, even with a price tag on it. Why? Because people STEAL! They steal and try to return it without a ticket, and thats not OUR FAULT! Its those who steal that make the policies... and yes, we do give gift receipts... and our policy states plainly that a receipt is needed.. so when I have customers come in with no receipt, I say theres nothing I can do... and if they start screaming and cussing, I have them removed from the store and go about my business. Its not worth my time to be talked to like dirt, when all I am doing is my job. So, hey, if they dont wanna shop Kmart, then, hey, thats fine, but, there are plenty of people who do.. and who respect our policy.. you cant expect respect if you don't have the nerve to give it to begin with.

My sons received some LeapPad books for Christmas & one of them they already had. We took them back up to KMart & they told me the exact same thing. No receipt = No refund/no exchange, No NOTHING! I was shocked. It's not like I was asking for cash. I just wanted to exchange the book for one he didn't have. It even had the KMart Price Tag still on it! Cust. Svc. told me there was nothing they could do, until I asked to speak to the store manager. After about 10 minutes of "discussion" he finally let me exchange it. This is the WORST exchange policy I have ever encountered. I couldn't believe, even with the KMart price tag still intact, they wouldn't let me exchange, at first. I am grateful that the store manager finally gave in; however, I can only imagine the number of people that have received extremely poor customer service due to this new policy. It's no wonder they're going bankrupt.
