I was in the unfortunate situation of having to retain a criminal defense attorney. I knew I was not guilty, but had a lot to lose by not proving this (the reality of it is when you are charged with a crime, you are guilty unless you stand up for yourself and fight). Thus, I hired who was said to be the best attorney around. Even last year, this firm was voted one of the best in the country...

After about 9 months of delays and my attorney trying to compel me to plead guilty, AND double charging me to stay involved, well beyond our agreed amount, he, Dee Wampler, abandoned my case. He SENT ME A LETTER (which I still have) stating very clearly to show up in court and plead guilty to the original charges, or, he would enter a motion to withdraw. I had previously sent him a letter in response to a letter from him stating he didnt know what I wanted to do, restating that I desired a bench trial and expected him to form a legal defense as he was hired to do. I hired another attorney.

The new attorney very quickly assessed my situation, found the legal grounds with which to defend my case, and scheduled a bench trial. Just 2 appearances and I was acquitted because there WAS NO EVIDENCE I had committed a crime. Why was this so hard for one of the "top attorneys in the country" to defend?

I submitted a complain to the Missouri BAR Fee Dispute Resolution Committee, and they found in my favor an award of a $4500 refund. Wampler refused to pay. I filed a complaint with the Missouri BAR Office of Chief Disciplinary Counsel, highlighting several points in the MO Code of Professional Conduct that Dee Wampler was clearly in violation of, in relation to the way he handled my case and the subsequent issue of extrodinary fees not beign refunded. They refused to look into the matter. I contacted several attorney from the tri-state region and NONE will take my malpractice case. I have contacted the media, and they will not respond.

This attorney calls himself a Christian, and his heavily involved in the community, churches, school board, pro-bono work. I fully beleive he has made such a name for himself that no one can possibly believe at face value that he could do something so wrong.

Well, he has wronged me, and I wonder who else he has done this to. All I asked him for was what was fair, and awarded to me BY HIS PEERS. He won't even stand up and admit to what HE CAUSED, and I HAVE HE WRITTEN LETTER FROM HIM THAT SET THIS ALL OFF.

Be the Christian man you say you are Dee Wampler. Pay your debt to me and anyone else you have wronged.

We made the unfortunate decision to hire the same firm. Paid them $11,000 and Dee Wamper quit before the preliminary trial. He should be charged with a crime. But he is an Attorney. They dont get in trouble.

Dee Wampler offers bribe to remove complaint

Wampler contacted me and admitted to owing the refund, but offered to pay it only if the complaints against him were removed and proof of such submitted to him. Bribery, as defined to me by the Greene County DA office (who would not take the case). I contacted the MOBAR and received copies of multiple complaints against Wampler (and/or his law firm) for professional misconduct, for which he was admonished.

But MOBAR won't engage in my complaints against him although he is clearly now in my opinion engaging (again) in professional misconduct. And he still has a law license. How much can he get away with? I intend to scan and post all correspondance and copies of publicly available complaints/admonishments from the MOBAR Disciplinary Committee for anyone to clearly see what they are getting into before hiring this firm.

So I hired Wampler and joe about a year ago for a case and payed a 7500 dollar retainer and was told it would last to the end of the trial. Over the course of the next couple months we received a few bills another being 8000 and shortly after another 3500 all being paid thinking he was doing a decent job on the case filling my head with all his legal nonsense making it sound great then assigned Adam woody to my case which was fine. The prosecutor offered five years probation with ses suspended execution of sentencing but we were pushing for sis suspended impositioning of sentencing so the plea offer was deneyed and Adam had me enter a guilty plea which I was guilty had a half a hydrocodone found in my pocket so time went on and my sentencing was scheduled and I was told on several sercumstances that the prosecution was still pushing for ses my sentencing has been pushed out numerous times until finally joe shores up to court one day like he has been on the case all along and gets it reschuled again which was fine until my last case was coming up we as in my mother and I receive a letter from joe saying he wants another 3500 just to show up for sentencing and well we are spent have no money and tell him no then my sentencing day comes and i look on case net the day before and see my case is to be rescheduled again per court order the day of three hours prior to sentencing I receive a call as a reminder to show up to court telling me to be prepared to do 7 years in prison to be honest it terrified me this whole time I think I am about to receive probation and then told I am probably going to prison wondering when this changed and then I am about an hour away from sentencing when I get a call a few moments from the court house telling me not to show it has been reset again it is now set for the end of September and I don't know what to do if I should try and hire another lawyer with the imaginary money I have or what to do I have about five months to figure out what to do or if it is just a scare tactic to try and get more money and if it is it's working so please if anyone can please help in anyway please do I don't know how from probation to the maximum sentence carried with my charge I'm a student and working this will ruin my life so please anyone help if you read this and don't know spread the word my email is (((ROR redacted))) make this travesty known I'm not the only one to be screwed help me try and prevent this phone number (((ROR redacted)))

I am sorry for your situation but glad to hear I am not alone in Wamplers dealings. Unfortunately I got nowhere with the MO BAR, as I think Wampler is so well known his peers think he's "all that". he's got the community fooled. And that a*s partner of his, Joe. Yes I have put up with the screaming and obscenities from him. He's an embarrassment to the profession. There are 3 things you can do - 1. get another attorney and file an appeal. 2. file complaints with the Missouri Fee Dispute Resolution Committee AND the Missouri Bar Office of the Disciplinary Counsel - There are instructions on the MO BAR website. 3. File a civil discrimination suit for adverse action based on your sexuality - you may start with the Missouri Human Rights Commission (see their website). They will investigate and issue a "right to sue" if they agree with you.  If enough people come forward and complain maybe the committee will be forced to do something about this unprofessional lawyer, hiding behind his status and ripping people off with fear and intimidation. Best of luck to you.

Please tell me how to file with the Bar Association effectively. Dee took $46k and drug out my case for 4 years. I wanted it over with, but he kept dragging it out. After 4 years he said either I plead guilty or pay him $15k more within 2 weeks. I didn't have the money and being 4 years into it, thought I could not get another attorney. Joe (dee's partner) called my wife and mother to curse at them so loudly that he could be heard across the room. Dee discovered I am a homosexual and decided not to actively defend me from that point on, but continued to pretend he was. Now, he is on TV news bashing homosexuals, verbally. He did nothing I asked. When my sentence came, he wasn't even present. It was the hardest sentence possible for my offense. It was my FIRST offense, ever. I can't go back and say I'm not guilty, but Dee forced me to plead guilty. What can I do now?
