This is nonsense. I bought a Corolla recently from Liberty Toyota and no one explained the Etch as an Alarm. Liberty Toyota gives customers this free service of Etching the Vin Number into all the windows so that it deters thieves from stealing your car. It also can give you a discount on your insurance. How ignorant can this complainer be to think that etched windows are an alarm? And Liberty puts it on cars free so they aren't ripping anyone off. This person should say thank you.

The car dealers pay a few dollars, maybe $10 or $20, who knows, kind of like the invoice price, for a guy to come out and etch your VIN number on your windows. Then they try and sell it to you for whatever they can get out of you. Sometimes it's on the price, sometimes not. $99, $129, $299, whatever you're dumb enough to let them get away with. You don't say how much you let them get away with, just that they did. They tried that crap with me. I told 'em to take it off, I didn't want it. They took the price off. The interesting part is YOU can get a DISCOUNT on your auto insurance, from some companies, IF your windows ARE etched. Vehicles with etched windows are less likely to be stolen. I think they sell auto etch kits at some parts places for $29 or something like that, so you can do it yourself. It's all part of being INFORMED, BEFORE you go to a dealer to buy a vehicle. It's like GAP insurance, cedit insurance, life insurance, tire insurance, paint and upholstry insurance. They're all add-ons to the sale, that make the dealer a potload of money, with little or no benefit to the customer or something that the customer can buy for a FRACTION of the cost after the sale from someone else. Keep it in mind the next time you buy a vehicle.

They tried to get me to pay 200$ for etching at lawrence toyota. I almost walked away, but I DID not end up getting it done. All it is is you vin# etched in the glass. You have the vin ALL oVER your car anyhow. And if someone wanted they could get the # out, the same way they fix chips in the glass.
