Gordon Brothers Group has taken over Linens N Things to liquidate, and they are marking up prices before they take the "sale" discount off. I went into the Noblesville, IN store to purchase a Margaritaville Frozen drink machine for the price of $199.00 (minus their 40% off sale) as listed on the item as well as on the shelf that the machines were on. At checkout I was informed that the machines were priced at $229.00 before discount and that was the only price offered and nothing would be done. After several minutes of discussion with the "manager" on duty, I was told to leave the store and she actually called the police. This is unforgivable; if a store will not honor their own posted prices then what are we as consumers to do? So I now know that Linens N Things (Gordon Brothers) is marking-up their prices before offering their "store Closing" prices and not even clever enough to change the original prices on the merchandise. I realize that this is only a $20.00 difference, but once again this is illegal as well as unforgivable. If Gordon Bothers is handling the entire liquidation; I am sure this is happening nationwide. So if you want to be treated like a criminal; go on down to Linens N Things and question pricing!

First of all, as previously posted, LNT was not in charge of any pricing. It was totally left to the liquidators.  The only authority any LNT associate or manager had was to operate the store and its employees.

Nothing was marked up.  Everything was set back at their original price.  It was probably a previous sale price that you saw.  Just because not every sign was taken down doesn't mean you can get a different price.  There are thousands of little price tags that had to be taken down so its possible someone missed one.

The fact they told you to leave and actually called the police tells me you were a very rude and unruly "guest".  I worked at a LNT during liquidation and there were plenty of people that were mad about pricing, a lot of them were trashy, as I get the impression you are one of those "guests".

Managers did not have the authority to change pricing on anything in the store. Damaged or priced wrong.  They couldn't care less what you said.  What are you going to do? Not shop at LNT anymore? Big loss that is.

Get over your ego. I hate people who think just because one sale tag is still posted, it means they are guaranteed that price.

Gordon Brothers Strikes Again at Stupid Prices

#3General Comment

Gordon Brothers has recently taken over Stupid Prices (Smart Buys at Stupid Prices).  All of out "haul-back" and defective merchandise was put back on the floor at full retail.  We are not allowed to disclose the condition of the merchandise to the customers, in otherwords, we are advised to rip off the community.  Our merchandise has also been marked up, the liquidators send in a repricing team to jack up the prices prior to the start of the sale....how is this honest.  People know the prices!  They called the police on me too as I caught them altering paperwork, upping the sales for the liquidators.  This company needs to be shut down!

LNT was not in charge of prices

You can get mad at LNT, but it wasn't their fault. All prices were decided by the liquidation company. They made the stores raise the prices to the original non-sale prices. LNT had prices only barely above what they paid for the merchandise. That was part of their downfall. Honestly, prices were changing so often that it was hard to keep up the signs. Often, signs got mixed around, and customers would get really angry with us, the employees. We'd get yelled at about 6 hours out of the 8 hours we worked by complaining customers. There was nothing we could do about prices. We couldn't override to give the customers the supposed posted price. The liquidators didn't allow it. Even managers no longer had authority there. They took away all of those rights, and the registers no longer allowed us to alter prices or return items. Everyone in that store was about to become very quickly unemployed, and a vast majority of the customers who came into the store just screamed in our faces.

INACCURATE INFORMATION ON GORDON BROTHER POLICYS REGARDING LINENS THINGS

#9UPDATE EX-employee responds

Fri, January 09, 2009

I would like to respond to inaccurate information regarding David from Indiana and his visit to a Linens NThings being liquidated by Gordon Brothers. As a ten year ex-employee of Gordon Brothers I never saw one piece of merchandise being marked up.THIS is not their policy.Of course,if a Tv is incorrectly marked $1.99 vs the correct price of $199.00,they will change it.David claims that the product in question was marked at $199.00 and shelf sticker also reflected $199.00 price. However ,when he went to service desk or register,he was advised that the correct price was $229.00/That would be the plu(PRICE LOOK UP) file price.Thats what the register rung up.Management insisted(within their rights) he pay that price, minus the 40% liquidation discount. There is no law that the retailer or liquidating company give the consumer the incorrect price. Many consumers think that this is the law.I suspect David wanted the item for the $199.00 price.A heated argument occurred, police were called.I beleive from this report the Linens nThings employees missed the markup($199 to $229,did not change the item to $229 or the shelf sticker) previuos to being liquidated by GB.Its been my experience as a consultant for GB that if the customer is reasonable and rational ,i will accomodate them and honor the mistake. Since he was asked to leave and police were called as a last resort,I beleive mgt could not reason with him, thus the extreme action.

Pretty much the same thing happened to me at the Phoenix, AZ Linens and Things. A sign was CLEARLY posted saying ALL sizes of a certain brand pillows were $9.99. When I got to the counter, they rang up as $19.99. I questioned the price and the "manager" walked with me over where I showed her the sign on the bin that held the pillows. She told me that the sign was incorrect and actually removed it and walked away! Talk about a "bait and switch". Needless to say I walked out. Although it wasn't as expensive as your situation, same principle applies.
