The Los Angeles County District Attorney was sworn into office to "protect and serve" all the citizens residing in Los Angeles County.
He refuses to protect or serve elderly, widowed, senior women from predatory criminals. Point in case, more than 18 months ago, I presented the D A's office with a case of elder financial abuse. The case was clear cut and simple. While the DA's office was out chasing "contractors" who bid on $300 jobs without a license, 3 "contractors" acting in concert, took an elderly (now) 87 year old widow to the financial cleaners. 1st they took her life savings, next they ran a bulldozer through her house that they were "remodeling" and lastly after receiving the entire project demand in cash, (more than $265,00-again in violation of the law) they abandoned her and her now demolished house. They violated numerous Business and Professions Codes as well as the Penal Codes.
I was told to report the crimes to the LAPD, who merely took a "counter" report and did no follow through. Not being interested in being ignored, I went to the State Contractors Board in Norwalk, California. Thanks to the investigator at CSLB, Ms. Rosemary Hall, a report was forwarded to Sacramento, with a recomendation for a criminal filing. Still Mr. Cooley failed to do anything. Not yet ready to give up, I a filed civil complaint in the LA Superior Courts and last week, received a substanial judgement against these crooks, who will NEVER pay one cent.
As an aside, the presiding judge stated in her judgment that what these three individuals did was "wanton, wilfull and criminal" and that their acts further constituted financial elder abuse as well. I then returned to the DA's office -and guess what-once again the DA has sloughed off his duties to "protect and serve" and asked "why" was I at the office of the District Attorney. I was and will continue to seek justice for my 87 year old client.
Steve you are a coward and need to do the work that you were elected to perform.
