Six months ago the store was a Hechts department store and that particular brand purse was not a brand Hechts carried. Maybe the purse was carried at Macys stores. Hechts recently changed over to Macys in our area. The sales price was $31.48. The original price was $65.00. I didn't want cash I wanted to do an even exchange. I found the same purse I wanted to exchange on the floor and it rang up $31.48. Like I said I found it hard to believe this purse sold for $15 in the last six months and it went back up to $31. If I had taken the purse back later this month or even next month, I can see it selling for $15. Although I was able to do an even exchange I wanted other consumers to know how unfair the return policy is at Macys.

Most stores use this same policy: if you do not have a receipt, they will give you store credit for the lowest sale price that same item had during the previous 6 months. That's to prevent people who bought the item for $15 from returning it and getting the non-sale price. Asking for the receipt...even a gift receipt which doesn't have the price of the item on it... should not be looked at as "hurting" someone's feelings...but helping you get what you want with the same gift giving intent they had in the first place. Good luck, but Macy's policy has been in place for years, and as I've said, it's the same nearly everywhere, including Walmart on the low-end of retail to the high end stores.
