Magicjack Lies About Free Incoming Phone Calls! Their webpage clearly states incoming calls from same area code are free. Friend got $70.00 charge from her phone company! Internet Florida
Magicjack's website advertises under "Frequently asked questions" that "calls received on Magicjack from friends and family in the same area code are free!". I passed this information on to my friends in my area code. My friend just received her monthly bill from Embarq with over $70.00 in charges for calls made to me.
Come to find out that, because our Magicjack phone number given to us by Magicjack is of a different PREFIX from my friends, the calls, even though in the same area code, were considered long distance toll calls by her company. I searched the entire Magicjack site, and there was not a single mention of prefix-exclusions anywhere. I went online with their (outsourced) live help, and was transferred to two "supervisors". I was told that they were "deeply sorry" for any misunderstanding, but they had no intention of assuming responsibility for those charges. Somehow, I guess, I was supposed to know about this prefix issue that was never stated anywhere.
When I told them that their webpage was clearly advertising falsely, they just kept telling me there was nothing they could do to help me. They told me that their website "hasn't been updated in a while". I'm pretty sure there is something called "truth in advertising", and I told them I was going to report this clearly misleading advertising to the attorney general. They told me to just go ahead. They actually had the nerve to tell me it was my friend's problem and not mine....CERTAINLY not theirs.
I would never do business with these dishonest people again. Don't be mislead by the cute little girl and her sweet daddy on the website. These folks aren't so cute at all!
