Mattress Discounters did not void your warranty. You voided your warranty by not properly caring for your mattress. Exclusions and limitations are spelled out on your warranty card, and if you chose to take the risk so you could save a few bucks on a mattress protector, you now get to live with the consequences of your actions. Try taking a broken TV back to Best Buy or a faulty oven back to Sears to collect on a manufacturer's warranty. They're going to tell you to call Sony or GE or whoever your manufacturer is to have the issue resolved. If stores replaced unsatisfactory products for every customer who complained with no rules in place, all stores would eventually go out of business.
There is a good reason why stains void a warranty, incidentally. When you spill something on your mattress, the liquid can cause mold and mildew to grow inside, the coils to corrode (which will ultimately cause a sag), and the foam and padding to clump together, causing hard spots. That is not necessarily what caused your sag, but it may have been a contributing factor and if the manufacturer pays for consumer-damaged mattresses, their prices will go up for all consumers.
The stain exclusion is common to every mattress manufacturer I've looked into, regardless of what retail store you make your purchase with.

as a rep from a mattress manufacture, not associated with Sleep Train/ Mattress discounters, i can offer you a manufactures opinion.
Here is the thing about stains on mattresses. the only way they occur on mattress is from sweat or other body fluids or if you spill food on your mattress. i know is seems hard to imagine, but you wouldn't believe the calls i get somethings.
The fact of the matter is, the inspector that MD uses is an outside contractor. they are completely impartial to the problem. when they are sent out, all they know is who you are and what mattress they are supposed to be looking at. they dont even know what the mattress warranty is half the time. their job is to simply look at the bed, report everything they see no matter how insignificant and report it back to the office.
the office translates the data and sends a report to the manufacture to see if they agree with the assessment. basically to see if it conforms to the warranty. sometimes, based on the report, we see things that the company doesnt. for example, is the bed on a manufactures boxspring or someone elses. if the boxspring is not "matching" then that is usually classified as the reason behind bed sagging. sometimes we will warranty beds that the inspector suggests no replacement.
back to the stains.
i know this will sound harsh, but think of it from the inspectors perspective. you walk into a home, you see a yellowish stain on a mattress... would you want to mess with the bed? i wont. for that reason as a manufacture, we do not accept or offer warranty support on mattresses with stains. for all we know it could be something harmful that may cause health issues for an employee and we will not put our employees as risk.
again, i don't know what mattress you have, but i have done business with Mattress Discounters. i am also not saying your mattress was not defective. based on teh measurement, and the industry standard of 1 1/2" of body impression, that would be something that is normally replaced, but the stains are always a deal killer.
i would suggest getting a good water resistant or waterproof mattress pad. something that says it will protect your bed from stains. some of these company's have a guarantee where they will replace your bed if it does get stained while the pad is in use.
that way your bed is not stained, and stores like mattress discounters are more inclined to help you.
